Nelson Mandela thought this system was unfair that's why they we're protesting against it. Nelson Mandela refused to comprise his conduct because they completely ignored him on his requests of making all political prisoners the same rank. Nelson Mandela thinks these restrictions are inhumane and unfair. when he doesn't get a letter in jail he is very sad and depressed but when he does get a letter he is so happy and it's the best thing in prison. Their are different groups in the prison and nelson is in group "D" and it takes about 6 months to get from d to c. What the author thinks about this text is that being in prison is not very good and the experience is pretty bad. They wouldn't let people who were in the d column get or receive more than one letter and also they couldn't have much visitors.nelson thought they wasn't fair and it was racist. He uses the words when I don't get a letter " I felt as dry and barren as the great Karoo which means he will feel upset but when he does get get a letter "The summer rain that could even the desert bloom"which means he feels great.

Big topic: Big Topic: Nelson Mandela's experiences in jail

Key idea: What we are learning about Mandela's experience in jail is that all prisoners are classified by authorities as one of these four categories a,b,c,d. A group of prisoners You git extra food, more envelopes, and money. B we don't know yet. C you are able to reserve 2 letters every six months and D group prisoners you git 1 letter every 6 months. But the author did not have the greatest experience in jail and he got the lowest-ranked

D. and still has that rank for 2 years. The wardens used to threaten their hard-earned rank to keep their behavior in check. Nelson Mandela refused to comprise his conduct because they completely ignored him on his requests of making all political prisoners the same rank. So they called him trouble makes and eh would be in the D group categorize for the rest of his class. his experience in jail was cruel and unfair.

APOV: Nelson Mandela thought that it was an inhumane restriction of the prison system Communication with one's family is a human right. And also thought it was racist of them not to let the prisoner's git those letters.

Mandela would rather have Bad news then to not even get any news from his family. He feels happy when he gets a letter from his family and cherishes it but when he doesn't he feels very dry and sad, disappointed.

When Mandela received letter he felt sad and dry like the great Karroo desert.

Nelson Mandela didn't wanna give them satisfaction or eagerness when he got a letter he would slowly walk to his cell.

when he did git a letter they were cherished so he was really happy.
The islands censor would blackout offending passages in the letters that were sent. and Take out a paragraph that was offending. they used razers to do slice paragraphs off.

The author thinks that If u steal someone else freedom you are stealing your own freedom. Freedom is not just to get out of chains, but to free people from racism! both the jailer and jailed lose their humanity. Oppressor: White

Oppressed: Black

when he is released he wants to stop oppressed and oppress both. BY ending racism and segregation also by respecting each other and treating each other equally and fairly.
even if he gets out of jail there will still be racism that takes freedom from people so...

Because of Nelson Mandela's experience how he was treated unfairly because of his skin. And after all of that and first handed experience all of the hardship while he was in jail. After he walked out of jail something sparked in his mind he wanted to end racism and segregation by respecting each other and treating each other equally and fairly. Because even if you git out of jail there will still be racism that takes freedom from us! It helped the Arthur see the real world because now he has a first hand experience on racism and how it feel's. while he was in jail.

APOV: Nelson Mandela wants to end racism and segregation. He feel's like it's unfair and cruel and that even if your not in jail anymore your still not Free in order to be free you have to respect other's and treat them fairly.

A being the highest, D being the lowest. He felt angry but didn't let out his emotion.
~ He would only be able to get 1 letter every six months, 2 every year. The guards would black out some of his letter and shred them.
~ He wants freedom for all he didn't want anyone else to go through that. Things are still happening he wants all of us to make a change. He wanted no more levels based off people because people with different levels got treated different because of what they stood for or skin color. It made nelson mandela realise how it felt, if he didn't go to jail he might've not realised what it felt like.

Genre- Informational Whats the topic? People in jail had their own level, so if you were in the A level ypu would get more right that everyone, And if you were in D you would get less rights that and people that are above you. And people Didn't lime that. Whats the information we learned about the topic? The workers were just oppressor and treated everyone wrong and were racist, Nelson Didn't like any of that. The workers called Mandela a troublemaker and would say he'd be in Group D for life. Whats the writers perspective on this text? Mandela thinks this is just the true test of freedom and we're far far from freedom. And also thinks its wrong to keep people away from others.

Nelson Mandela he did not have the greatest experience in jail and he got the lowest rank, rank D. He was going to be this rank for the rest of his jail time, because he was a trouble maker. Nelson Mandela and other inmates protested to have them all in the same rank so they all have equal rights. They split them into different ranks so they can get a certain amount of letters sent to them in a certain amount of time. Nelson Mandela didnt like fact that they were seperated into different groups. Nelson Mandela had a really scary time in jail mostly about the letters and not being able to get one as frequently, he only got 1, every 6 months. This made Nelson Mandela very sad, and he thought that this shouldnt be happening, we know this because he used metaphors to explain his feelings. Nelson Mandela believes that he and other inmates were oppressed and thinks that the oppresser should be punished by being oppressed so they understand how it feels. Nelson Mandela is not free when his freedom is taken from him. He believes the first step of a journey is the most important step. His journey was not over and he was not going to give up until it was complete.
