In 1925 Tennessee passed the Butler law banning teachers from teaching Darwin's theory of evolution due to its contradiction to the bible. A science teacher names John T. Scopes challenged this law by teaching that humans evolved from apes. Although when the case reached court the jury sided with the law and Scopes was fined 100$, which was eventually dismissed in a later court.
