A science teacher names John T. Scopes challenged this law by teaching that humans evolved from apes. Although when the case reached court the jury sided with the law and Scopes was fined 100$, which was eventually dismissed in a later court.  <br><a href="https://www.history.com/topics/roaring-twenties/scopes-trial">https://www.history.com/topics/roaring-twenties/scopes-trial</a><br>The Scopes trial was also known as the Scopes "Monkey" Trial. The trial seen as a good thing to many because it publicly advocated for the legitimacy of Darwin's theory and challenged the Butler Law. <br><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdqnwRwbb4Q">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdqnwRwbb4Q</a><br>They called it the monkey trial because of the fact that Darwin's theory said that we descended from monkeys/apes. The American Civil Liberties Union opposed the Butler law and offered to fund the legal defense for anyone who was willing to fight the law in court.<br><br></div>]]></description>
