Washington and their ideals. Today he is known as one of the most influential African American philosophers. this information is important because his words and his ideals were enough to influence many and led many to follow in his steps.

What I learned about Booker T. Washington was that he was a prominent person and also founded the Tuskegee School, though he seemed to be advocating for black people. Booker T. Washington was an assimilationist and really just wanted to make the white people happy, and even said that black people were only successful because of white people. This is important because Washington basically just wanted his fellow black people to just stay out of the way of white people, instead of being together and creating unity with everyone.

DuBois was that he was a big supporter of the Harlem Renaissance and with that, continued to promote artistic expression in the African American community. DuBois felt not enough musicians and artists to promote the cause against segregation and unequal rights. Washington was a determined individual who travelled 500 miles across virginia, just to attend Hampton Institute. a school for the training of freed men and women following the civil war. Washington becomes the principal of Tuskegee Institute later, a school for African Americans. Under his rule, Tuskegee Institute becomes one of the leading Institutions of higher education for African Americans in the US. Washington also wanted to make the white people happy, and said some controversial statements, like how white people made black people successful, which sounded like he was doing the opposite of leading black people, but behind the scenes there was a lot more going down. he was also funding anti-discrimination lawsuits challenging the Jim Crow segregation. This information is all important because it shows how smart Booker T. Washington was, pleasing white people and aiding black people towards a better future, and a unified community.

Washington is that during his speech, the Atlanta Compromise he wanted African Americans to focus on economic development rather then protesting their civil and political rights. As white people were not ready for this change, Washington urged them to build economic power though industrial education. This matters because he wanted black people to make this pathway to end up with their own institutions and businesses which in Washington's view, was making themselves useful to white people and proving their capabilities rather then begging for a partnership that they didn't want.

As a result in 1891 after criticizing the lack of supplies in the black only schools in the area she was then fired.

This matter because, writing about how you feel in a area where you do not feel comfortable could get you fired in in the 1800's is crazy. But this showed how tough life was as a black person in the 1800's, this matter because Wells took action to how she felt and she technically made a movement on that.

Marcus Garvey grew up in poverty in Jamaica, and he learned about race relations from British colonialism throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. in 1914, Garvey founded the U.N.I.A. the Universal Negro Improvement Association, made to unify all black people throughout the world. This would grow into a huge statement once Garvey immigrated to the US. Garvey's program then created the Black Star Line, a steam boat that transported any African Americans who wanted to immigrate to Africa, to Africa. This was possible due to the support and funding from local black people in favor of these ideas. Garvey was eventually arrested in 1925 from false accusations of mail fraud from the Black Star Line scheme because the government thought Garvey was too powerful. he then got deported in 1927 and was never allowed back into the country, and then dies in London in 1940. He created the largest popular political movement ever in black America. Garvey was important because he was so influential with his program UNIA it didn't even need him to function and over a little bit of time he had created the largest political movement in black America, which influenced tons of people.

Garvey created this scheme to repatriate to Africa and reclaim it giving hope for millions to immigrate to Africa. This matters because through the similar views and support of black people, he had the potential to establish a colony against the U.S. to better their industrial, commercial, educational, social, and political conditions.

This movement was his belief that all Africans around the world should migrate back to Africa and form a great African nation. He did this through his foundation the UNIA which was founded in 1914. He was eventual arrested on false charges and deported two years later in 1927. Wells was the most important anti-lynching advocates in history. her anit-lynching campaigns brought international attention to the threat of violence happening in the south in the US. She then became one of the founding members of the National Association of Colored Women and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, where she helped lay the groundwork for activists and stuff for generations after her. She attended Rust College while taking care of her 5 sisters and brothers. Wells grew amazed by writing and started writing as a journalist. She was involved in in-depth investigative work to help people see the widespread acts of lynchings in the south, and went under the alias Lola to not get caught and hung herself. This is important because speaking out about the horrible lynchings in the south can help get the spotlight where people can see it and it will influence other people to start advocating for anti-lynching laws.

Wells raised her 5 siblings after her family died while still going to college and ended up fighting against lynching and discrimination, endangering herself in the process. This is important because she was someone who was willing to put her own safety on the line for the cause she believed in, and people like her are who make change possible.

Something I learned about Jack Johnson was that he was the first heavy weight boxing champion, who wasn't white. The previous champions were all white, and they refused to fight him because he was black. Other African Americans loved him, because when he went into the ring, he was representing them. He was proving that they are just as good as white and he was simply better than them, considering they brought a retired white heavy weight boxing champion to fight him, and he won. This matters because he's proving the people who think African American's can't achieve anything, not just that but he's also giving other's hope because African American children can see him as an inspiration. As someone to look up to as they grow up.
