He talks about multiple artists and how one could listen to them in a certain way. Either you like a few of their songs, maybe only like one song or one of their albums, or you really embrace what the artist is trying to portray and you listen to everything they have to offer. For certain bands, I will listen to every song, every album from beginning to end so I can get the most out of what they are trying to show everyone. Artists that make albums that are good from beginning to end. Ratliff identifies a few examples, like The Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead has one of the biggest and passionate followings. They are a band that has made a ton of music and has performed live so many time over the years, it makes sense that the following could be considered to be like a cult. There are people who live to just see Phish play live. Following their tour for every concert. Like most people who like Tool, I love every single album that they have produced. Sadly they haven't come out with a new album in over 10 years.
