I personally don't even know how to create a paper airplane, so I want to try to experiment making it. It was a challenge since I thought I knew what I was doing it but in reality I had no clue. I had no guidance or reference to look at so I was doing my best. In the end I didn't do very well and I thought it would be easier. I hope to create different figures like animals.
(Engage & Persist)
(Envision)

As I continue watching more videos I learned that the thickness of the paper is important. That was the one particular reason I was struggling with last class. I ended up trying it today with just regular paper instead of construction paper. The results of using the thinner paper was shocking. It was so much easier and I accomplished creating the dinosaur. They're were some parts I still struggled with but I got towards the end. I still had a lot of class time so I created the bird as well.
(Engage & Persist)

I decided to jump right into making an origami figure, which was my first mistake. I wanted to start with a challenge and I decided to make a dinosaur. I didn't realize how hard it was and the size of the paper matters. I was watching a video and I was getting stuck on so many different steps as I was getting towards the end. I noticed that every fold and crease is important and you have to do it multiple times. I tried it with a big piece of paper and didn't do it well, so I tried with a smaller piece of paper and failed again. I took the whole period rewatching the video to get a certain step. I realized that I should take a step back and start with a simple paper airplane.

(Stretch & Explore)

As I continue my research I stumbled across a video I found really interesting. When you think of origami you think of paper. This video shows how this artist uses plants and flowers to create figures. I didn't realize that origami was just paper it could be created from other media. I continue learning new techniques as I continue improving. The video influenced me to create a paper plant.
(Understanding the Art World)

As I continue to create more origami pieces I learn that they're actual types of folds like a mountain fold, reverse fold, a valley fold and several others. It might just be me but I never knew that making origami pieces is harder than I thought. I keep messing up and I feel like as I continue to challenge myself the worse my pieces look. I observed that for a lot of the pieces I create it's the same technique. For my elephant I struggles a lot, and actually had to start over with a new piece of paper a couple times. It looked easy but actually trying to do it was harder. I was messing up my folds, and couldn't get it down right.
(Observe)

As I continue creating origami figures I feel like I'm not really improving. It is a lot harder than what it looks. Just doing the simple figures takes me about 30 minutes to an hour to create. In the picture below I decided to create a dog. The hardest part is actually getting towards the end because it gets harder to actually manipulate the paper. As easy as the dog looks I actually messed up and had to take a step back. I had to rewatch the video until I got it right.
(Engage & Persist)

As the last day on the research project I took the time to create another figure, and look up some tips. I personally feel like this has been a challenge. As I was reading I was reading that it is easier to fold the paper away from you. Today I decided to create butterfly , while I was working my classmates helped me realized that I wasn't going slow. I relaized that I was rushing things. It's already time consuming enough and I try to speed the process up but in the end it looks bad. I ended up starting over and it was much easier especially with the folds.
(Understanding the art world)

Overall I enjoyed creating origami figures and learning more about it. It was a challenge trying to create one even though it looks very simple. I for sure did not expect it to be as hard as I thought it was going to be. Each piece took me a couple tries or even up to a whole hour to make. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun making it even though I wanted to give up several times. I learned that you don't need paper to even make a figure, there is a specific paper you should use, and I learned about the types of fold.
