Last week, me and my friends were assigned to serve and help people in orphanage, schools, nursing homes and churches. It was called Youth in Mission. For my group’s youth in mission, we went to 3 different places. A Kindergarten, a Daycare/ Preschool and a church. We did this for 5 days and it had to take 4 hours. From Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, me and my group tirelessly work hard together so that we can complete our task with our best efforts.

First day: Menara Tirza

On Tuesday 17th September 2024, me and my group went to Menara Tirza TK, we had to teach kindergarteners. I was really nervous and scared as it was my first time ever, on doing Youth in Mission. I didn't know if i were ready enough or responsible enough to take up this task. But the negative thoughts in my head soon vanished after i met those kids. They were so cute and so active. When I taught them they were so eager to learn and when I did something wrong they weren’t judging (mostly cause they are too young to understand what i did wrong). Me and my group taught them how to draw and colour, but most of our time were cut due to a health check up the students had to take. Still, it was so fun, I hadn’t want that day to end.

That day we had a morning devotion with the students and teachers. We learned about the birth of Jesus and the story of Noah’s Arc. We then danced and sang to Christian songs and ended it with a prayer.

The students head back to their classes and me and my group taught them about occupations and what they aspire to be. Some answers I got from them were unrealistic, but most kids answered that they wanted to become a police, so they can protect people from harm and catch criminals.

Third day: Menara Tirza

On the third day, I realized that that day would be the last time i would ever see the students anymore. For the past 2 days, it has been a rollercoaster. Everyday feeling drained but at least we got to spend time with the kids. We didn’t only spend it with the kindergarteners but also with staff members, teachers, and elementary and secondary students. I had met too much amazing people so it was hard not to miss that place. But we put our emotions aside for a while and went back to teaching the kids. On the third day, we taught them about animals and their habitat. We brought three dioramas. One showing a barn, another showing an ocean environment and one showing the forest. The students had to match the animals to their habitats. It was so fun in seeing how eager they were to learn. There was a girl who had cried because we didn’t have a unicorn picture so we gave her a seahorse in return and she finally participated on the task. It was so funny, it made me really miss that place.

As our task was over in that particular school, we headed home separately. But then me and my group all got a surprise hug from the kids and they waved us goodbye. I then knew that I was already too attached.

After leaving Menara Tirza, we went to Chrysalis Daycare/ Preschool to continue our journey. The kids were very cute and very active. That day, we taught them how to draw and colour. Aside from that we also taught them about our teeth and how to keep our tooth clean and healthy. We then danced and learned about the animals and their habitat. We told them to mix and match the animals to their habitat and they were so very excited to learn. Shortly after the time was over and the kids had to go. So did we, so we parted with the students and teachers and gave them all goody bags.

On our final day we went to a church called Gereja Kristen Pentakosta Yerusalem (GKPY). We went there to help teach the kids in their sunday schools. We taught them how to dance and how to sing. We also informed them what it is like to be an UPHC student and that we came to their church because we were sent to spread the blessing of God. We then shared our favourite stories and bible verses and ended our session with a prayer. We each all parted ways and also gave the staff and kids, goody bags.

From the Youth in mission i had learned a lot of new things. I had learnt not everyone has their life easy and that seeing the joy in people’s eyes makes me feel immense happiness. By helping and teaching people, I could see the look in people’s faces and how I meet so many different people and share new experiences with them. It truly makes me very glad.
