I have two parents and an older sister and live in a traditional one household family. Both of my parents were born in Nepal and immigrated to The United States in 1998. My parents weren't really involved in politics when they lived in Nepal, but in the early 2000's, my dad's political ideology was independent and my mom's was democrat. My dad is very open minded towards both parties and can see both perspectives. Their ideologies remain the same till this day. Their views definitely influence mine.

Identity

Being both a woman and a person of color has definitely shaped my political ideology. Both of these identities play a big role in politics and impact the way I am treated. Being South Asian especially is a very important role in my identity. I also involve myself with people who share the same identity I have, for example, I have many left-leaning south Asian friends and also female friends.

Where I Live

I have lived in Colorado my entire life and I have been exposed to many aspects of it (Ex. The city and small towns). However, I've mostly been exposed to the left-leaning side of Colorado because I live in the suburbs, a safe neighborhood, and I am relatively close to the city. I am friends with many people who live in my neighborhood and they are mostly left-leaning and democrat.

Religion

None of my parents and family are Christian or Catholic, so I didn't go to church growing up like most kids did. However, they do believe in Hinduism and Buddhism. My mom often practices Hinduism at home and we celebrate major Hindu and Buddhist days/events that are important to the religion. However, I am not very religious. But I do value being respectful towards Hinduism and Buddhism because my family believes in it. Me not being very religious has impacted my political views a lot.

As a Gen Z, my political views and ideology have definitely been impacted by the era I live in and the people in my generation. My political views have especially been impacted by Covid as well, for during that time politics were almost everywhere you looked. Examples include the 2020 election, black lives matter, and more. These events shaped how I view politics and where I lie on the spectrum. This is also around the time where I started to get more involved in politics and started to form my own views.
