I went to the grocery store for the first time since the start of our lockdown. I don't think I have seen so many empty shelves before! The only time I can think of were some of the more recent hurricanes that were projected to hit Florida, but nothing to this magnitude. Just a side note, seeing hand sanitizers and bottle of soaps fly off the shelves makes me wonder... what were all of these people doing beforehand? I hope this monumental virus opens people's eyes and lets people understand the importance of good hygiene. Anyways, I'm glad that some stores are limiting people from buying everything and anything they need, leaving other people items that they might need.

Recently, I have been watching a lot of baking shows, and learning from the best of the best. The main show I watch is called Buddy vs. Duff. It stars the Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro and the Ace of Cakes, Duff Goldman. The show chronicles a series of challenges presented by three judges, in which the two baking stars compete head to head against each other and rack up points. The baker with the most points at the end is the winner. At times, the show can be very nerve racking and competitive and I love it for that quality. Nothing like good old competition. Also, like many other sports and basketball lovers, i have been watching The Last Dance, the Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls documentary which displays what was going on behind the basketball's biggest team at the time. It's fascinating to see that a team can break up in an instant, in the Bulls' case, the player's relationships with the management.

For my first family interview, I went on a zoom call with my cousins from my father's side. First, I asked them about how bad their state's situation was. They explained that New Jersey was in bad shape and that their virus cases were quickly rising. Next, I asked them if their family was alright and how they were passing time while in quarantine. They said that most of their time was spent watching movies and baking, like most other people. They also said that they spend more time with each other, now more than ever since they were all bored, and that they had played boardgames everyday for the last week. All of my cousins are either still in college or have a job, so they are still occupied by either studying or working all day. Last, I asked them to elaborate on how much their lives had changed because of the virus. The first answer I got was severe. My cousin brother, who's still in college said that he hated his online classes, and that the interaction was no where close to the interaction he got at college. None of them had left their house in the last couple weeks and they all said they were just extremely bored. My other two cousins didn't really have a problem doing their jobs online, but they were very affected from not going outside. They said that they usually go shopping on weekends, or go for ice cream, but they can't anymore. Overall, they said that it was tough staying at home.

Today was uneventful...and I was bored. I had finished my homework very quickly since many of my teachers were still getting used to teaching online. After my homework, I decided to go downstairs and play some video games, but I had finished all of the video games I had. The only thing I could do with the game is finish the post-game, the extra parts of the game after the main storyline is finished, however, when I tried to play the game, I got very bored. I decided I had wanted to bake brownies, but we didn't have some of the ingredients that I needed. I couldn't play boardgames with my family since my father was in conference calls all day, my brother was taking his classes, and my mother isn't the biggest fan of boardgames. I had planned to watch some YouTube videos, but none of my favorite YouTubers had posted any videos. By the time my whole family was free, we decided to watch a movie, but in my opinion, the movie was extremely boring. After that my night ended, and I just went to bed, doing nothing for the majority of the day.

From technical deserts such as a molten chocolate cake, to very simple deserts such as a cake in a mug, I have tried it all during this break. Baking has given me something to do, and something that I know I benefit from, some delicious desert. In the picture above, I made a fresh batch of cookies, and by the end of the night, they were all gone!

I next interviewed my aunt and uncle from Michigan. First and foremost, I asked them how they were and how the state was doing. They answered that although Michigan was alright at the time, the number of cases was growing rapidly. They also answered that they were good, and not as bored as my cousins. Next, I asked them what their initial reaction was to the virus. They answered that they were shocked, especially since they didn’t expect the virus to hit America. At first, they believed that it would spread in China and maybe other countries, but not even come close to the United States. Once the first case of the virus was found in the United States, they instantly got prepared to deal for the worst, especially after looking at how China and their people handled the situation. Last, I asked them to list off the things they miss the most from the outside world, whether it being a restaurant or an activity. The list went as follows...golf, flying (especially to their children), bowling, and shopping (if you couldn’t guess, this applies to my aunt a lot). I asked them why they miss them, and they really couldn’t give me an answer. They said that those weren’t even their favorite hobbies, but they miss them because it is something new that they could do.

Today, I have noticed that a lot more people are starting to head outside and get active. From the way it’s looking outside the house, it seems like the initial shocks of the virus have gone down. Yes, I know I may sound selfish, but I don’t like it when people are outside. My parents have made this rule that if someone is outside and visible in our community, then I can’t go outside. At this rate, I won’t get out of my house until 2021! I guess it’s not all bad, we still get in the car and drive around...without a destination. Maybe I should be glad that my parents are restricting me, at least I haven't gotten the virus. Also, why are so many people outside at once? Do they not have someone to restrict them from going outside? Do they not care if they get the virus? I guess it doesn’t matter what the answer is... they’re just a lucky and brave bunch, that’s for sure.

Finally, I interviewed my cousin who lives in New York. I wanted to interview him because New York was one of the first states who were impacted by the virus. The first question I asked him was how we was, the standard question I asked all my other relatives. He said he was extremely bored since he lived in a single apartment by himself. He hadn’t had gone outside in the last 2-3 weeks and has been cooking the most since he’s lived in his apartment. I asked him how he felt when he heard New York was one of the first states impact by the virus. He said he was expecting it. New York being one of the most popular states to go to, he told me that New York was bound to be hit very hard. Finally, I asked him what he misses about the outside world. He said he misses his friends, family, and even going to work. According to him all he has been doing is “eat, sleep, work, play.” In addition, he misses the city life, out of all things.
