They were considered miniature adults, dressed like them as well as working primarily at farms with their family by the time they were 7.

At school children would not learn how to read or write as it was considered unnecessary.

In schools there were both children and middle-aged adults who would be in one classroom together, often being noisy and hard to concentrate. 

They would use the classical method of learning, reciting their lessons.

The discipline in schools was often harsh.

Family households would be primarily made up of the parents and kids, instead of in the past when they had distant relatives in the house.

Families had started to also move more into cities in order to make more money

People were now marrying others they choose, prior to arranged marriages set up by their parents.

Child death rates had decreased, causing parents to grow more connected with their kids.

During the industrial revolution, fathers did a more public working job while the mothers would stay at home and care for the children and house.

Children mortality rate was often 20-30% than they are now

More children worked than adults did since more than half the US population comprised of kids under 16

Children working in both rural areas, factories, mines, and mills. These jobs would affect the child's health, education, and normal development and even result in death.

  In the 1920’s child labor was reduced due to more kids going to school than work.

The 20th century had lower death in children, less fertility rates, increase in divorces, and the increase of mothers working away from home.
