But it was not a direct confrontation between the two superpowers. Although the Soviet Union and the United States did not directly go to war, they each supported a different side in the war. They avoided direct contact with each other. They did that by operating through proxy governments and forces. Vietnam was a battleground in the Cold War, when the United States and Soviet Union grappled for world domination. This kind of relates to real life because it helps us relate to what is happening in our lives right now and how people had to live their life back then.
