- level: We chose the level Terminale because, as they are older and have done more english, we thought that it would be easier to tackle this subject as the students have more overall knowledge, more abilities in English and a more critical mind when it comes to this topic. This WebQuest fits in the axis Identities & Exchanges.
- goals (linguistic, cultural, etc): The goal for them is first to learn more vocabulary that they may not know. Then, it will allow them to learn more about the US and the realities as it is a country that is often idealized by young people. See different points of view through different activities that they may not have thought of doing during a "traditional" English class.
- reasons for topic and activities: We first wanted to start with what they knew of the American Dream, their ideas of it so that everyone could have their images in mind when going through this WebQuest per group and see how differently they will see the US and the American Dream after this. Then, we wanted to show the truth of it, the good sides and the bad sides. That this "dream" isn't all black or all white, there are some good aspects and some bad aspects.
- how to integrate it in the course: We decided to integrate the American Dream in our course through different activities. Our aim was to introduce the notion of American dream to our students. We did not choose a “traditional way” of teaching but rather a “playful” one, thanks to videos, music and cartoons. We thought that the students would be more invested in the topic through the means of these activities. Thus, they will learn more about the American Dream and maybe even search more about it on their own after the quest, because they are a lot more of it on internet ( with more videos, music or even films). We also wanted to try different activities, as it is specified in the webquest, to experience different ways of learning. That is, a student can be more familiar with a particular way than the rest. And this can be very efficient for them to learn more about the topic while finding their own way of learning, the way which work the best for them.
