A Little About ME

I am an 18 year old and going through my senior year of high school. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease during spring break of my eighth grade year. It was a huge change in my life and made finding food very difficult. I often skipped lunch when I was at school because I may have forgotten to pack a lunch and had no other options. This is why I have decided to make a change at my school and I hope to change many more. Students like me deserve the chance to eat a warm meal at lunch or to have another option in case they forget to pack a lunch. I believe that everyone deserves more than one option and I have a few ideas to fix this problem and provide for all.

Option 1: Microwave

An idea for not only gluten free options, but allergy friendly options is to have a specific microwave set in the cafeteria and the onyl way people can use it is if their ID has an icon on it permitting microwave use. This would allow students to bring a bigger variety of food to school from home and to have a nice, warm meal.

Option 2: Seperate Lunch Line

Students with Celiac would have a separate lunch line with clean materials that haven't come to contact with anything with gluten. In order to prevent waste students must order their meals to be prepared that morning or the evening before. The biggest issue with this idea is that it is more expensive and people might not use it.

Option 3: Salad Bar

All students would be able to have this healthy and allergy friendly option. It would be a salad bar where the student would choose the type of lettuce, multiple toppings and/or salad dressing which would have regular and light options. The cafeteria servers would be the only ones handling the food which would keep it organized and clean and the salad bar would be beneficial for all students giving them a healthier option.
