Portraiture is an old art form going back years and years ago at least to ancient Egypt. It is how the appearances of someone was recorded.This was before the invention of photography.

A portrait is a painting, photograph , sculpture of people, possibly animals, in which  the face or their expression is the most noticeable. A portrait can tell us a story, can show us the personality and mood of the person, it can be very complex because of the emotions/ facial structures. When 
 a portrate is taken is of living or live activity. This photograph is powerful, this mother is in a very deep thought because she is wondering how she is gonna survive this era and help her children at this time of their lives. This image captures the strength of a mother when everything is lost and nothing to eat. When looking at this image, the background although not seen much it almost looks that they are just sitting in the outdoors on a tent made out of sticks and sheets. 
Dorothea Lange wanted to show how extreme these people were in need during the Great Depression era, she wanted to change people’s perspective and she wanted to show how powerful an image can be when people look back at this image.
This image is captivating, a mother’s love to her children is everything. This image makes me aware of the history, the Photographer captioned emotions when taking this photograph, of sadness, worried/concerned and heartbreak. 
A truly beautiful image that speaks a thousand words. 
Amazing photography shot taken in a decisive moment.

He has made black and white images of people living in the streets. 
In my opinion his work is amazing every image is in great detailed, every line, every wrinkle. 
This image underneath of this homeless woman is very captivating to me because it shows that homelessness don't have the privilege of health care, I think the message that this photographer is sending is that there is a very large number of homelessness all around the world and they are ignored by every day people, no one stops and see what they may be going through or try to help in any way. His image impacted me as a person and how I view them, because even I don't take notice of homeless people most of the time. This has made me stop and think when I next see someone laying on the floor.
Lee Jeffries enhances his photographs because he wants his viewers to look at the persons eyes, on his image we can see how the eyes on this way is very dominant, that is the first thing I notice and look at. 
There is so much emotions and expressions on his image, this woman seems crazy in a way, the way that she is looking towards the lenses of the camera is almost as she is fed up of everyone around her.
I do love this photographers work, I believe his technique is unique and amazing. It is really an eye popping work that captivates my eyes and I only just want to know and see more of his work.

An American photographer, illustrator, filmmaker and writer.
I love the image underneath of the actor Christina Ricci. Dan Winters is very clever on how he uses his lighting skills, I feel his portrait is very clean, he tries to capture images with emotions that keep you thinking and wondering. I really like the lighting on this portrait, Dan's work have similar colours such as blacks, different tones of greys, bluish grey. What stood out for me on this image was the emotion on her face, I loved the colour tones. I think the red on this image really gives it that extra special touch on this image. The red on her lips matching her top really did give it that extra factor on this image. The subject is very condense into her own thoughts on this image.
when I first looked at this artist work I did think he was very different from the artist I have research before him, I did feel as there was not much emotion on theses images but I do believe is because all his portraits are off famous artists so feels a little fake, there is no story of why he is showing us these images. Ephemeral / Ephemerality: 
Ephemeral has a short life, something that lives and dies really quickly, just like a butterfly, butterfly live and die very quickly, only here for a very short of time. Life is very precious, in street photography is a moment caption in time. Special moments, precious moments that would be over in a split second.

Juxta position: 
Is a fancy word for contrast.
This happens when you have or place two contrasting subjects side by side. The contrast between the two subject can create an image look much more interesting.

Candid:
A Candid photography is taken without creating a pose, it is an image taken in an act/ moment, without any preparation on taking the photograph. The subject is in motion when photograph is taken, subject may not realise photographs are being taken as they will be distracted when the image is being taken. They may not even know the image is being taken.

Observational:
Observational photography it is variety because what catches my eyes may be different of what would catch someone else's eye. We all have captured images of real life.
There are different types of Observational photography such as: street photography/ portraiture, documentary photography and photojournalism.
Observational photography would define your work, it takes effort and time. It is important to analyse before taking the photograph, take different perspectives images and evaluate your location.

Off the hip:
Type of angle in photography, started by taking photographs taken off the hip.  Garry Winogrand took pictures of people life, holding the camera on his hip and started taking images of people's feet.  Great way of taking images of people without being aware that a photograph is being taken. 


Zone Focusing:
Is a type of focusing system used by many photographers. Cameras have adjustable focus. The photographer can use the depth of field focus to have the desire object at working distance in focus. A camera can be adjust to be able to focus to take the shot.

He uses high contrasts on his images, different tones of colours, creating colour popping images. By doing this he is making his photographic images very unique. His photographs are very explicit, he uses nudity in some images, his images almost look cartoonish. His lighting skills are very powerful.
His images are very high-gloss, his work is hyper-realistic style. His work brings a sense of laughter and energy. His images can be very bizarre but gorgeous. This photographer seems to like and experiment to make his photographs different by making it extremely funky. These images almost look photo shopped. His creativity is exceptional. 
David LaChapelle does a lot of Juxtaposition photography. He also uses zone focusing technique to make his photographs clear and in focus.

The point of it is to illuminate a subject in all the right ways, in a effective way, to pleasing to the eye for others.
There are three types of lights:
KEY LIGHT: this lights is the main source of light in a photography.
FILL LIGHT: this light is used in photography to fill in the darker areas that the main light does not touch when looking at the subject.
BACK LIGHT: this light helps separates the subject and the background, this helps create a 3D effect.

I used a gold reflector on these shots, I feel because of this there is a golden look to these images. I practiced different direction within lighting. Using different directions can help by giving different shots each time, it can be frontal lighting direction, this has a flattening effect, it does not give it a 3D effect. On my shot I noticed my model was squinting at times because the main light was so direct onto my subjects face. Side lighting direction can bring texture to my image because shadows will be on the opposite side of where the light is. This can bring out the texture on the subject. On people this may cause the person to have one half of their face to be in shadow, or just part of the face. It can empathised the texture of the face, such as wrinkles, skin pores etc. Back lighting direction, as the light is coming from the back of the subject there may be less highlight area but more of the shadow area, it gives it  3D feel to the image, a great way to make the subject stand out on the image and making it more dominant. The Intensity of lighting can affect your shot, the camera must be in the right settings, making sure the aperture, shutter speed and ISO is at the right settings. The intensity of the lights in the studios can also be higher or lower. You can change your lighting depending on how you would like your shot to look like. By having multiples light sources, this can affect the contrast on the image, contrast is created because the intensity of lighting is more greater on one side than another. for your image not to be appear flat you can reduce or increase the intensity of the lights.
It is important to use the focus on photography to get a clear shot. If the shot is not clear the image will be blurry and the image can not be used. On this task I am learning about layers and masks on Photoshop.  To be able to get the mask effect I had to firstly upload my image, once image is loaded I had to copy my image by pressing CTRL + J , my next step was to press the vector mask which is located on the bottom right side. Once these steps were taken I could c on my screen my image and next to my image a blank white sheet right next to each other. I then clicked on my image to make it black and white, I made it black and white by selecting image, then adjustments and it then gave me the option to press black and white. After this I then clicked on my white blank layer to make the adjustment on my image. I then clicked the brush tool to then be able to un- colour the black and white area, this tool is to bring out certain parts of the colour in a black and white image.

This is very exciting to learn, I did experiment with 5 images which are below. I found it can be very hard to keep the mouse steady when colouring the area of choice.

It is used for advertising. 
3 point lighting is used in product photography to enhance the product, to also minimise shadow to the best of your ability. The light would be set up as a triangle angle.

Short Portrait Lighting:
This is when the subject is facing to the left and the main light would also be coming from the left. This will show that there will be a patch of light on the broad side of the face and will not all be in shadow.

Rembrandt Lighting:
It is short lighting where the shadow from the nose connects with the shadow on the side of the face, creating a triangle of light on the short side of the face.

Split Portrait Lighting:
When the main light focuses on one side of the face making one side light and the other its just shadow.

Butterfly Portrait Lighting:
When the nose is pointing to the direction of the light , and the light is high enough to create a downward shadow under the nose, the shadow is shaped as a little butterfly effect  giving us butterfly lighting

We went outside the college, near a bus stop as we thought it would be a good way to catch bus moving and people getting on and off the bus.  we then set up the camera on a stable surface, we used a tripod for this. we had to set up the timer on our phone for 24 minutes. we then took a pictures on the camera every 10 seconds, we had to make sure we got 150 shots in total.

I used Photoshop to edit this image to give it a different shade of feel by using the tools such as levels, hue saturation. This stop-motion project was really funny to make as we had to think of how to make this animation quite fun and unique. we started by setting up our camera, we used a tripod, this way the camera would b stable at all times and we didn't get any camera shake on the images, we pointed the camera to the white board. once that was set up we started drawing each image, we took pictures as we was changing each image, it took a little while but the results are very good. Each time we took an image we wrote it down as we had to capture 150 images.
