If you are looking for fun activities in the Altoona area, here are 5 options you have.
1. Galactic Ice Skating Rink is located in the Lakemont part of Altoona. It is a sports complex where you can ice skate or play ice hockey in a league. It opened it doors to the public in 2000 and is Altoona's first ice rink facility. It is open 7 days a week from 9AM to 10PM. According to the website, you can also have birthday parties there or other events.
2. Next to the ice hockey rink is People's Natural Gas Field also known as the Altoona Curve minor league baseball field. The Altoona Curve baseball team is the minor league baseball team of the Pittsburgh Pirates and was started in 1999. Along with baseball games there are a number of events that happen at the field. You will have to check the Altoona Curve calendar to see what those events are but one example is "Lights On the Lake" which happens during the Christmas season. The ticket prices may vary but they are not very expensive. The game season usually lasts from April to September.
3. Holiday Bowl is a bowling alley that is not too far from the ice skating rink or the baseball field. It is open 7 days a week and there are different leagues people can join. The bowling alley opened in 1959 and has 40 bowling lanes for people to use. The address to the bowling alley is 181 Bowling Lane. There are options to have parties and fundraisers there and it features different types of themes for users to enjoy.
4. The Altoona Railroaders Museum is a great place for people to walk around and learn about the history of the railroad in the city of Altoona. It is located near where the famous Boyer Candy factory is located. Its hours are from Friday to Sunday from 10AM to 5PM. The prices are based on the age of the person going in but it is not expensive. The mission of the museum is to preserve the history of the railroad and what it meant to this city.
5. If you enjoy golfing, there is a very nice golf course in Altoona named Park Hills Golf Club. Along with playing golf and using the swimming pool that is located there, there is also a nice restaurant that serves food for you to snack on after you play. The golf course allows tournaments and fundraisers. You will have to schedule a time to play because you have to be respectful of other players. Golf isn't a fast game so they schedule your tee time so that you don't rush other golfers. 


 


There are also playgrounds and parks that you can use around Altoona if you don't have a lot of money. There also plenty of safe neighborhoods that you can walk through with your family or your pets. With the mountains so close to the city, there are also lots of places that you can hike to and explore. I didn't include these historic places on my list but there is also Old Bedford Village, Fort Roberdeau, the Mishler Theatre, and the Baker Mansion that are well worth spending some leisure time exploring.

From around where I am from you have a variety of activities you can choose from, From swimming, to ATV riding, skiing, snowmobiling, golfing,fishing, and camping. Then you have things like the Flight 93 Memorial, and the Quecreek Mine Site.


At the flight 83 memorial you can visit the visitor center , the learning center, the memorial plaza, and the tower of voices. You can take a walk on one of the memorial trails. They also have a annual September 11th, observance. 


Great Allegheny Passage you can have a variety of things to do from bicycling and hiking t snow shoeing and train spotting.


There is camping at the Cedar Creek Hiker-Biker campground. This site over the Youghiogheny Rive. It offers shelter, picnic tables,spaces for tents and fire rings.


Big Savage Tunnel IT was built by the Western Maryland Railway in 1912 and refurbished for bicyclists and hikers in 2003. The eastern portal reveals and expansive overlook with benches wit a picnic area where travelers can gaze into four states.


Fallingwater is Frank Lloyd Wrights masterpiece of organic architechture you can take a tour that leads you over the grounds as well as the interior. You can enjoy lunch at the Fallingwater cafe, browse the Spreyer Gallery and the Fallingwater museum store.
