The European Day of Languages (EDL) was first celebrated in 2001 during the European year of languages .
The overall aim is to draw attention to Europe's rich linguistic and cultural diversity and to alert the public to the importance of language learning . The EDL language range is an opportunity to celebrate all of European's languages including those less widely spoken and the languages of migrants.

O Dia Europeu das Línguas (del) foi celebrado pela primeira vez em 2001 durante o ano europeu das línguas.
O objetivo geral é chamar a atenção para a valiosa diversidade linguística e cultural da Europa e alertar para a importância da aprendizagem das línguas. É uma oportunidade para celebrar todas as línguas europeias, incluindo as menos faladas e as línguas dos migrantes.
