I did all of these things at my church. I really enjoy serving at my church because it is a safe environment for me and can interact with people better there than I do at school. I started to volunteer for my church when I was in sixth grade and have been doing more ever since. I mainly serve in the junior high ministry so I serve sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Then sometimes I also serve in the high school ministry too. Every now and then I go to the main church area to see if more help is needed.

Since I am skilled in playing guitar and have been playing for about two years I decided to serve on the worship team on stage for our student ministries, which includes junior high and high school. In addition to playing guitar, I also helped where needed in other areas at church. I work in the tech booth doing audio for weekend student experiences and working in the cafe as a cashier. All of these services contribute to the overall weekend experience for students at my church. I volunteered for these positions with other student volunteers and adult staff members from my church, who helped me.

This is a connection because in the book, William first had to learn about wind and how windmills work which got him interested. He had to practice experiments a lot on the windmill to help his people. This connected with me in worship, I had to practice my instrument for auditioning for the worship team. I practiced and practiced until I couldn't get it wrong anymore which relates to William in the book and his idea of the windmill. Another connection I have is with Boxer from "Animal Farm". I have the dedication of Boxer. I am scheduled to serve almost every weekend and the commitment. It's similar to the dedication I feel to contributing to the community. I also relate to Boxer because he is very hard-working and would take any chance to work on the farm. For me when I am at church and whenever I have free time, I offer help to anyone that needs it and take any opportunity that presents itself.

I first started volunteering because I enjoy music and even though it took me a while to actually start, after time I just decided to do it. When I first started I was a little nervous interacting with new people and even learning new skills. But over time I got more comfortable and ended up making good friends and really looking forward to the times I would volunteer and help. It's one of the things I most look forward to when going to church. Over time I've continued to improve my playing and also my social skills. I'm usually pretty quiet and shy but I feel really comfortable now when volunteering.
