         <title>The second piece of evidence said advertising is successful when a company triggers a craving in a consumer. If this craving works according to the neurological processes associated with creating a habit, the user will be motivated to buy the product over and over again to satisfy the craving.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This built on the idea the phone addiction allows companies to have an immediate and nearly constant space to push advertisements. Because society has become dependent on phones for communication, as well as a behavioral addiction pattern, the aspect of craving and habit has been taken care of. Now, all companies need to do is supply a steady stream of ads to the consumer.<br>This lead me to think more about behavioral addiction and its ties to advertising.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Today, we have this phenomenon of behavioral addictions where people are spending nearly three hours a day tethered to their cellphones This related to my second piece of research in that it built upon the idea that as a result of the increased time spent on cell phones and computers, ad companies are able to reach a broader audience more often. This, in conjunction with the use of algorithms that predict user tendencies allows for more effective advertising with greater results.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This built on the idea that on companies contribute to making the algorithms  smarter and smarter with each new message and audience segment that it is tested on. <br>This made me think that  the more successful the ad campaign, the more effective the successive ad campaigns will be because the ad platform has learned more about the best targets. This is creates a cycle of advertiser and ad platform; both benefit from the success of the other.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>The fifth piece of research discusses how advertising tends to promote ‘extrinsic’ values rather than ‘intrinsic’ values. Extrinsic values are those that rely on external factors for validation, such as the opinions and admiration of others. Intrinsic values, on the other hand, are rewarding in themselves, such as a sense of family belonging, rewarding work, or self-development.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This connected to the idea that  rise technology and advertising  go hand in hand, as  they are beneficial to companies who profit off of behavioral addiction, but very detrimental to the consumer who as a result of this combination experience greater instances of the phenomenon “perceived obsolescence” which creates an unhealthy desire for things people do need and a fear of being left out if they do not have things. <br><br>Thesis: The use of modern advertising strategies in the digital age is based on society's increased dependence on technology, which results in an unhealthy consumer culture.<br><br>My nest steps to finish the project are to look more into the societal effects and psychological effects of mass consumer culture and targeted ads.</div>]]></description>
