My father is from Bogalusa, Louisiana. My father's family is traced back to European ancestry. My father did not tell us that much about his side of the family but my grandmother told my mother that she tried to trace her family and my grandfather's. So at a young age I knew that people have different ways of life compared to my family and I's lifestyle. My cousins were Muslim while my siblings and I grew up without a religion to practice. In my high school there were a lot of minorities who grouped together but they also interacted with a lot of other groups as well. I would try to understand where they are coming from to try and make connections to their everyday life because they will probably understand these examples compared to my own experiences that I would use as examples. Yes, all of my students are different from one another but my common goal for my students should be that they understand the concepts that are in my curriculum. As a teacher I should be able to have multiple methods to teach different concept so that all of the students understand the topic. I would say that my awareness of the diversity of culture has increased a lot from this course because of the exposure of multiculturalism in the assignments and will grow in time.
