Choose a course / module / module / individual lesson that you are currently teaching. Design an exercise for this target, Design a new exercise for this target, paying attention to: 1) Students’ Higher-Order Thinking Skills (“HOTs”) - the skills are at the top levels of the Bloom’s Taxonomy and involve more complex cognitive processes; analyzing, evaluating, creating. 2) Students’ competence, autonomy and relatedness (SDT-theory) and 3) Students’ wellbeing. Draft your exercise in a free format to Padlet. Remember to write what is the subject you teach and the topic of an exercise.

First, the teachers explain that electrophysiological signals from the brain can be described by the weighted sum of oscillators in time. Each oscillator is a sinus function with a different phase and frequency.

Second, in collaboration with the students the teacher build a code for the computational simulation of these oscillators and an aggregator that sums them up according to a user-defined weight for each frequency. He also performs a Fourier spectral analysis to show that from any signal, we can infer which frequency has more weight in this decomposition.

Third, the students can play with this simulator code and see the results both as a signal (time domain) and also as in spectral power (time-domain).

After understanding how to create and how to analyze/interpret these signals, the teacher then provides a real human electroencephalography signal and the students should analyze this signal and interpret them.

The students are organized in small groups to briefly discuss their findings.

Finish the activity with a whole classroom discussion, summing up their learning, and providing more references and exercises for home study.
