"Disease resistance to save crops like the Hawaiian papaya from being completely wiped out."

GMO stands for 'Genetically modified organism'. The film explains that with modern technology crops can be modified to get desired traits. I chose this quote because the shows that with the use of GMOs, the papaya fruit industry was saved. One article I found stated that using transgenic plants, which are GMOs, caused less of a need for the use of pesticides and herbicides because there is more of a resistance to pests like insects (Valente & Chaves, 2018). The film explained that GMOs could have disease resistance but this article states that there are more benefits to using GMO's such as less of a use of pesticides. Therefore the use of GMO's potentially have a greater benefit to using them.
Perceptions and valuation of GM food…

"The science is quite clear: crop improvement by the modern molecular techniques of biotechnology is safe."

GMO technologies to me appear to have more and more benefits with the more research I find about them. That is the reason I chose this quote. An article I found looked at genetically modified maize in Kenya. The article stated that Anti-GMO activists have argued that it is not safe to consume genetically modified foods (Karanu, 2015). Yet, research of genetically modified maize in Kenya shows that it has met health and environment safety standards because it has gone through a lot of testing (Karanu, 2015). I do not understand why some are still skeptical of GMOs when scientific research has been presented to prove that they are safe to consume.
GMO Commentary: A Healthy…

"Scientific consensus tells us the current GMO's on the market are safe to eat and safe for the environment."

I chose this quote because personally I would rather look at many collective opinions before I make a decision just like the one to either have or have no support for the use of GMOs. If many scientists collectively agree that GMOs are safe to eat then I do not see a negative outcome of using them. One article in particular states that there are not any GMO's that have caused any harm to a person or an ecosystem (Miller & Kershen, 2015). The article continues to state that the safety of GMO technology has been confirmed with hundreds of risk-assessment experiments (Miller & Kershen, 2015). If there is no real potential for harm then there I cannot find an excuse not to at least consider GMO's.
Concerns about Federal GMO…

"So, when all the data are considered GMO technologies, like Bt and RoundUp Ready, have decreased the use of harmful pesticides. Simply put, their net impact is better for the environment."

One of the big concerns surrounding the use of GMOs is that of the effect they could potentially have on the environment. I chose this quote because helping to secure the safety of our world's environment is personally a big concern of mine. GMO's could potentially be more beneficial to the environment than one may think. One of the articles I found stated that there could be about half the use of insecticides which in return lowers green house gas usage fighting against climate change (Adenle, 2011). I think that society needs to understand not only could there not be much of a health risk to consuming GMOs but that they could benefit the environment in which we live in.
Response to issues on GM…

"What if we got it wrong? What if eliminating GMOs was not the way to achieve these ends?

I chose this quote because there have been some that believe that using GMOs is unsafe and can have negative consequences to the environment but more and more research points to that it actually does not. One article states that 357 genetically modified crops were approved between the years 1996 and 2014 (Lin & Pan, 2016). The article also states that in 2014 GMOs were 35% of global seed market (Lin & Pan, 2016). Research shows that GMOs are safe for the environment and for human consumption yet there are some that still believe that there are negatives to using them. I do not believe that each product should be introduced without research showing that they are safe. But with the research presented it appears that GMOs are safe as well as them having many benefits.
Review Article: Perspectives on genetically…
