EXCO and SDC Retreat 2025 by Linda Teo

Welcome EXCO, we come together today not just as educators but as architects of possibility. This retreat is your launchpad into a future where pedagogy leads the way and technology amplifies our impact. You’re not just participants — you are trailblazers, strategists, and co-creators of our school’s transformation journey.

I’ve found using ChatGPT AI to be an incredibly helpful and time-saving tool in my planning and reflection processes. It has supported me in designing lesson plans that are more intentional and aligned with the curriculum, especially in integrating 21st Century Competencies like critical and adaptive thinking. I appreciate how quickly I can receive suggestions that are relevant, age-appropriate, and tailored to the local context, such as the Singapore Art Syllabus.

ChatGPT AI also helps me clarify ideas, generate rubrics, and draft student-friendly resources that I can immediately use in class. It’s like having a supportive thought partner on demand—one that listens, refines ideas, and offers alternatives without judgement.

While I still need to adapt the materials for my specific classroom and students, the scaffolding and structure ChatGPT provides have definitely helped reduce my workload and improved the quality of my teaching resources. Overall, it has been a valuable professional tool for planning, reflecting, and improving teaching practices.

When I got ChatGPT to assess a lesson plan, I like how it can masterfully distill out the key points based on the questions and suggest ideas to improve. However, as some of the ideas that were provided seem a little 'ambitious' for a 1h lesson, I had to provide it with further prompts to redirect it to my lesson objectives, the context I'm in and the profile of the students and discuss with it like a 'colleague'. It can go on and on but at the end of the day, I have to discern which ideas are worth taking away. :)

Aishah - Very useful for mentoring! I tried Task 1 on providing feedback on lesson observed. I compared the one-shot and prompt-chaining and am very impressed how AI was able to make specific comments that help the 'teacher' grow in awareness through a series of reflective questions on 1. Lesson Intentions & Design, 2. Student Engagement & Thinking, 3. Questioning & Facilitation, 4. Student Talk & Collaboration, 5. Assessment & Feedback, 6. Reflection & Next Steps - examples:

What evidence do I have that the lesson supported the development of critical thinking?

What aspects of the lesson design or enactment might I refine to better support deeper student thinking?

How can I further scaffold or differentiate critical thinking for students with varying levels of language proficiency?
