Access FM Analysis: Product

Aesthetics: The theme of this Clock is Flowers so to Represent it they put Fake flowers around it to represent that Symbol/Theme also the reason why they don't put real flowers is that if you do then the flower will die and it won't look good for the clock or anywhere you put it. It won't be eye-catching.

Customer: The customer is the person that you want to buy your clock or use for their good. For example, A person is getting a new house and doesn't have a clock to put in their living room so if you want them to get that clock then you have to enroll them to get your clock which means the clock needs to be good quality and eye-catching.In order for the person you are enrolling to get your clock.

Environment: If the theme is a clock which it is currently then the place where I recommend to put it is in a natural bright place so it's very nice and it will give a very positive vibe in that room/place that you are putting the clock in. For example, the place I recommend putting it in a living room or a study room so it will give the person who wants the clock a good positive vibe and give them a positive attitude that it's a good reason to get it.

Size: For the Flower Clock theme the size has to be very appropriate so the person that you are trying to enroll to get it will like it cannot be too big or too small it has to be just right and easy to place so that the person would want it.

Function: The Flower Clocks works behind the clock it has a battery or a function that you don't need to charge you just have to turn it on and it will be ready to go. The job of this clock is to help people know what time is it so they don't have to worry if they are late for something or they have to go out.

Materials:This flower-shaped clock is built with a sturdy wooden frame, easy-to-read paper numbers, and durable plastic parts.

1. Aesthetics:

 - The clock is designed with a playful, colorful theme that resembles a castle, making it visually appealing to children. It has bright colors like pink, yellow, and blue, along with decorative elements like hearts, stars, and flowers, which add to its charm.

2. Customer:

 - The target customers are likely children, particularly those who enjoy fairy tales or whimsical designs. The clock would appeal to parents looking to decorate a child's room with a fun and engaging accessory.

3. Environment:

 - The clock is likely made from materials that could be recyclable, such as plastic and felt. However, the environmental impact would depend on the durability of the materials and the manufacturing process. It seems designed for indoor use, reducing exposure to environmental wear.

4. Size:

 - The clock appears to be of medium size, suitable for hanging on a wall in a child’s bedroom. It’s large enough to be easily visible and readable but small enough not to dominate the room.

5. Function:

 - The primary function of the clock is to display the time, which it does with clear, easy-to-read numbers and hands. The whimsical design adds a secondary function of being a decorative piece that can enhance the aesthetic of a child's room.

6. Material:

 - The clock seems to be made from a combination of plastic (for the clock face and hands) and felt or fabric (for the decorative elements). These materials are lightweight and safe for a child’s room but might not be the most durable.

I will be making a Design Clock it is very unique and eye-catching.

The clock that i am going to be making is a clock that has a very unique design which is made out of acrylic so it will be very eye-catching since you can put that design clock everywhere and also its clear so every time you want to put it somewhere else it will still look good.

The Color of the numbers will be black so it will show the numbers more accurate and easy to read from a far place.

The acrylic will be thin so it will not be too heavy to put it anywhere around a house or place you want to put it in.

The handles that show minutes and hours will be black but the tip of it will be a bit red so it will show the exact time measurement of what time it will be,If you want to check the time.

The numbers will be very bold and big so its easier to see if you are like at the other side of that place your putting in your clock.

The amount of time that will be needed to create this clock will be around 5 weeks including Researching , Measuring, and maybe making a small prototype and testing it too.

The measurement will be around 12 inches which is 30cm for top to bottom and around half of the length for the side to side measurement.

The reason why i don’t choose to do Roman numbers is because what happens if a person that you are trying to enroll to get your clock doesn’t know how to read it but numbers most of people around the world know the numbers.

The gap between each number will be around 5cm to another number which means each 1cm will have a small line to represent a minute in this unique clock.

The reason why i chose this design is because it is unique than most of the clocks that i can see and also it is very eye-catching and you can put it anywhere you want without having to worry it wont be a match in that specific place you want to put it in to.

My target audience is the person that i am trying to show my project to and the main audience. It must be the person you want to present to and you know they need it if you are trying to sell it or they can help promote the project you are making.

The materials that i will be using in my clock must be things like wood, acrylic, plastic and maybe cardboard etc. Mostly the type of wood can be soft or hard wood it depends on your design cause if its complex then it’s better to use hard wood so it can be stable or you can use both if you want to.

The function of the clock that i will be making will have 3 arrows that show the minutes, seconds and also hours,I will be making one of the arrows red to represent seconds so then people can find it easy to spot the clock within a far distance. The other two arrows will not be the same length because if it is then how would the person know which is hour and which is minute. So i will make one of the arrows more shorter then the other one and it will represent the hour so the longer one will represent the minutes in the clock that i will be making.

The dimensions that i will need in order to make my clock is the length will be 30cm and across will be 15cm.The reason why i will choose this dimension is because it will not be too big or too small so its a good size for my type of design. It wont be too heavy so it will just be write for my design project.Since if its too big then no one will want to get it or use it since it will be too heavy or it will not look good at the place they are putting the clock in.

The manufacturing Process of my design clock that i will be making is i will be needing a lot of materials and tools since the design i will be making is a bit complex and hard to make so i will be needing a-lot of stuff in order to make my clock that will be starting in these past few weeks. In order to actually make the clock successful i need to follow my plan briefly and also know how to make it without causing a lot of problems that will make my product non-existable.

The equipment that i will be needing is soft and also hard wood
Since in order to balance it out i think i will need my clock to be a bit heavy but not too much since i don't want it to be a struggle when someone is carrying it and then no one would actually be interested in wanting to get it.The tools that i will be needing is a chisel and a mallet and also a saw too so i can make the wood to be as a shape of a circle then start to add materials and color to make it very eye-catching and amazing so people would want to get it or they will get interested in my design clock.

The cost of the clock will be 15-20$ if estimated, because it will the design that i am using in order to make my clock is very cool and a bit complex so 15-20$ is very reasonable and also if its too expensive then no one can get it since it will be very confusing,So the price that i am making is very reasonable to the design that i will be making.

The planning-Time that i will need is approximately 5-7 weeks because due to the design i am choosing i think it might take a while but to make the shape and the functions of the clock will take at least 3 weeks but the color in order for it to be eye-catching is like 2-3 weeks since in order for people to be interested in my design clock i want it to be very eye-catching and very cool.

The reason i chose this design clock which is flower themed of a daisy is because it represents the element of nature and like its very unique to make and it has a lot of different type of shapes on it so it wont be that simple to make which means it takes a lot of time to make which is around 4-5 weeks.

It can be placed in a kids room since if people that really like nature or like the room of that house is very kiddish then people would want to get this type of clock. Its easy to check for the time and its also very easy to see if the person that is getting it wants to look from a far distance (across the room) Then it will still be able to see clearly which means the time management is very good if there’s a schedule to go to school or an important appointment then it will be very useful.

Kids would like this type of design especially girls since they would love to have a flower clock since there 2 positive things about it that they will know which is the first one is that its a very cool clock for them since its the shape of a flower and its in different colors which looks more eye-catching to them and the second one is that when they want to check what time is it then they wont be bored to look at it they will look at it through inspiration about what the clock gives to them.

The reason why i write so much is because in order to make this clock and not mess up i will have to concentrate alot and actually read the steps that i write in this production plan and i also will need to know if the tools that i need are missing or not which means i have to double check with the teacher or look around the design room in order to know if its missing or not so then my plan will work and building this clock will be successful.

Their are a lot of things that i have in my plan so i am a bit worried in order to build my clock so i do need to focus during these past few upcoming weeks of making my clock and i also have to know all of my dimensions of the clock which will be in my B4 which is the materials sheet so that piece of paper will be very important during this construction time.

In order to have a prototype then i have to look at my B3 so it will be a good reference for me to look at since its my final design but if there’s no prototype then no need.but if there’s no prototype then i will need to actually be very careful during these upcoming weeks of building this design clock

All of the process I actually did is that I used a pencil and ruler in order to mark out everything then I used like a cutting machines to cut it out then I go to the belt sander and sanded it so it could be smooth then I used a file to smoothen it out.Once I did all of these steps I start add numbers behind the actual petals and leaves so I know what order to stick it in and after I did that I started sticking all of it on using the acrylic glass that I have marked out and my teacher helped me cut it.

once everything is stuck on I started to paint the actual clock so it would look even more eye catching and not simple.

I notice that I have also been following my production plan but what I didn’t was actually making it on time since I did mark the dates that what things are suppose to be finished on that specific day which then will make my timing of making my clock worse and it will make me then stressed out since I will be thinking if I have a lot of time or not to finish it which will then make a really bad impact towards what my clock looks like and all of the features of it will be down graded.

What I would change and Improve 25/11/24

So In the start which is when I was starting to gather materials and make the clock it was good but then i found out that the petals were too small so then I had to add more petals into this design since it was originally 5-6 only and now it’s up to around 15-18 which is a big difference but it still looks pretty good so I’m not that much worried about it.

For the numbers I was really rushing and I didn’t have time so I just use a permanent marker to draw out the numbers and it looks so bad so it really affects what the clock looks like since I said that the clock is suppose to be bold black letters but these letters are not bold which makes a pretty big difference.

For the leaves and stem I feel like the stem is a bit too thin so then it doesn’t really look nice since the clock is actually pretty big which means the stem is also suppose to be big but it’s actually not.. for the leaves of my clock I just painted it green but if I add the lines that are suppose to be on the leaf it could be better.

What I will improve is mostly like cut the petals more neat since they are all not in the same size also i should improve my painting skills since it’s not smooth so it doesn’t really look appealing to most of the people and including myself.

So there is alot of things that I would change and also in order to improve anything is to not be stressed all the time about what others think about my clock and also to be more focus cause I took like 3 weeks for the marking out of my clock.

The Qaulity of the clock that I have been making for 5 weeks or more is that it’s not that bad since I added color and the petals look really good and in my opinion I didn’t really expect that since it wasn’t the same like most of the petals are All different sizes and I thought it will make a really big impact in a bad way.

I also think everything of my clock is okayyy since I added a lot of of detail including accepting the recommendation of adding the acrylic glass in order to make my design very stable so then it wont be easy to break.

I also think the Qaulity of the leaves and stems are not bad but it could be improves by adding the lines of the leaves and also using a darker shade of green at the sides to make it look more eye catching.

The Qaulity of my design really needs a lot of improvement that’s why I didn’t really talk about the good things about my clock.

Aesthetics (How it looks)

- The planter has a rustic and natural appearance because it is made from an old wooden pallet.

- The terracotta pots give it a classic garden look, which matches well with the wood.

- The plants bring color and life to the design, making the space feel fresh and inviting.

Cost (How much it costs)

- This design is very affordable because it reuses an old wooden pallet instead of buying new materials.

- The main expenses would be the terracotta pots, soil, and plants, but these can be bought cheaply.

- If someone already has spare pots and plants, the cost would be almost zero!

Client (Who would use it?)

- Garden lovers who want to grow plants but don’t have much space, like people living in apartments or small houses.

- People who enjoy DIY (Do It Yourself) projects and want to create their own decorations.

- Eco-friendly people who prefer using recycled materials instead of buying new things.

Ergonomics (How easy it is to use)

- The vertical design makes gardening easier because you don’t have to bend down to water or take care of the plants.

- It’s space-saving, so it can fit on a small porch, balcony, or patio without taking up much room.

- The height is comfortable for most people, making it easy to reach the plants without much effort.

Safety (Is it safe to use?)

- The pallet should be securely placed against a wall or railing so it doesn’t fall over.

- The pots need to be firmly attached so they don’t slip and break.

- If the wood is old or untreated, it could rot or have splinters, so it may need sanding or sealing.

Size (How big is it?)

- The size depends on the pallet used, but it’s usually around the height of a person and as wide as a small table.

- It’s compact, meaning it doesn’t take up too much space but still holds multiple pots.

- You can adjust the number of plants based on how much space you have.

Function (What does it do?)

- It works as a vertical garden, allowing plants to grow without using up floor space.

- It can be used to grow flowers, herbs, or even small vegetables like lettuce or strawberries.

- It improves the look of a porch or backyard while also being useful.

Materials (What is it made of?)

- Wooden pallet – Recycled and environmentally friendly, but needs to be treated to last longer.

- Terracotta pots – Classic plant pots that help plants breathe and drain water well.

- Metal or string fasteners – These hold the pots in place so they don’t fall.

For my initial ideas i chose to annotate these 3 designs is because they are all very organizable and very neat to put in different kinds or plants and also it shows that plants can be put in different shapes which makes it look very unique and eye catching towards the audience. The reason why i want it to look complex but neat at the same time is because i want this vertical gardens to look very Picasso and that means i want different plants and sizes of the plants in the vertical gardens including the lengths and widths.

I also think that if different kinds of materials are made in each vertical gardens such as adding glass and different types of colors and metals/wood joints in it shows that each plants can be put in different places and they can get use to it and it can even look more appealing and neat when presented.

The reason why i added a lot of annotations digitally and also on paper is because personally i like to annotate and add a lot of details while describing each of the products and also draw them using the techniques that i studied during design.

Description of the Image

The image presents an intricately designed wooden box that serves as a canvas for a vibrant floral display. Constructed from rich, natural wood, the box boasts a rustic charm that complements the vivid red flowers and lush green foliage nestled within. The combination of materials and colors creates a striking visual impact, evoking feelings of warmth and natural beauty. This piece not only serves as a decorative item but also showcases the harmonious relationship between craftsmanship and the natural world.

Annotations

Wooden Box:

The box is crafted from solid wood, which provides both strength and aesthetic appeal. The visible grain patterns and knots in the wood contribute to its uniqueness, emphasizing the beauty of natural imperfections. This type of craftsmanship often reflects artisanal techniques, highlighting the skill involved in woodworking.

Vibrant Red Flowers:

The flowers appear to be from the ixora species, characterized by their small, tubular shape and dense clusters. Their bright red hue is not only eye-catching but also symbolically associated with passion and energy. These flowers thrive in warm climates and are known for attracting various pollinators, thereby playing a vital role in the ecosystem.

Lush Green Foliage:

The green leaves surrounding the flowers provide a striking contrast to the red blooms. This foliage is essential for photosynthesis, a process through which plants convert sunlight into energy. The leaves also serve as a protective barrier for the flowers, helping to retain moisture and provide shade from harsh sunlight.

Openings in the Box:

The box features two openings, designed thoughtfully to facilitate both display and planting. This duality enhances its functionality, allowing it to transition from a decorative item to a small garden planter. Such designs are often used in modern home decor, blending natural elements with contemporary aesthetics.

Natural Soil:

The dark, rich soil visible within the box is indicative of a healthy planting environment. It is likely a well-aerated mix that includes organic matter, providing essential nutrients for plant growth. The soil not only anchors the flowers, allowing them to establish roots, but also plays a critical role in moisture retention and drainage.

Artistic Arrangement:

The thoughtful placement of flowers and foliage reflects an artistic sensibility, transforming the box into a mini floral arrangement. This careful curation showcases the beauty of nature while demonstrating the creator's design skills. The interplay of colors and textures invites viewers to appreciate the complexity of natural beauty.

Symbolic Meaning:

The combination of elements in this piece may also carry symbolic meanings—representing growth, renewal, and the importance of nature in our lives. Such arrangements can serve as reminders of the beauty found in the natural world and the need to preserve it.

This project stands as a testament to the synergy between art and nature, illustrating how simple materials can be transformed into stunning pieces that celebrate the richness of the environment. It encourages viewers to engage with the natural world, fostering a deeper appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.

since I’ll be using it to hold plants, I need to protect the wood from moisture. I’ll seal the entire structure with a waterproof wood sealant or outdoor varnish so the wood doesn’t rot or warp over time.

Inside each planting box, I’ll line it with plastic or a waterproof layer to help keep water and soil from soaking into the wood. I might also add small drainage holes and a layer of gravel at the bottom of each box to help with proper drainage.

To make the structure stronger, especially when it’s filled with heavy soil and plants, I’ll consider adding a back panel and reinforcing the corners with brackets or extra screws. This will help keep the frame from wobbling. If I want to grow climbing plants, I could attach a trellis or hooks to the back or sides so they have something to grow on. That way, I’ll make the most of the vertical space.

I also want the garden to look nice, so I’ll sand the wood to make it smooth and then paint or stain it with a color that fits the garden or outdoor theme. I can even label the boxes if I’m planting herbs or different types of flowers. If I need to move it around, I might add wheels to the bottom so I can roll it into sunlight or a better spot when needed.

With these changes, I think my vertical garden will not only be more useful but also look great and last longer.

To make sure my vertical garden is strong and safe to use, I will test it in different ways.

One important test is to check how sturdy it is when it’s fully loaded with soil and plants. I will carefully add weight to each planting box—using either real soil or something similar—and observe if the structure stays stable or if it starts to wobble or bend. This will help me see if I need to reinforce any parts, especially the base or corners.

Another useful test is a drop test, although I will do this carefully so I don’t damage it completely. For example, I can simulate what might happen if the garden is accidentally bumped or tipped over. I can gently tip it from a short height (like 10–20 cm) onto a padded surface to see how it reacts. If parts loosen, crack, or break, I’ll know those areas need to be stronger—maybe by using more screws, brackets, or better joints.

I can also test the drawers (or planting boxes) by pulling them out and pushing them back in several times to see if they move smoothly and don’t fall out. If they stick or tilt, I’ll work on improving the guides or supports.

By testing it like this, I’ll learn how my vertical garden handles weight, movement, and everyday use. That way, I can make it safer and longer-lasting before adding real plants.

My vertical garden is actually pretty stable because I made sure to build it carefully using both nails and wood glue. Before hammering the pieces together, I applied wood glue at all the joints to make the connections stronger. Then I used a hammer to nail everything in place, which helped lock the structure tightly.

The combination of glue and nails gives it extra strength and reduces the chances of it coming apart, even when it's holding the weight of soil and plants.

During testing, I added weight to the planting boxes and found that the frame stayed solid and didn’t wobble. I even did a gentle drop test by tipping it slightly from a low height to see what would happen if it ever got bumped or knocked over.

The garden stayed in one piece, and no parts came loose or broke. That showed me that the glue and nails are doing a good job holding everything together. I also tested the planting boxes by sliding them in and out, and they held up well without getting stuck or falling out.

Overall, I feel confident that my vertical garden is strong and ready to be used.
