Tensions between the US and North Korea are already high, but this past weekend pushed them even higher — and to an even more genuinely scary place.

Two developments stand out in particular. North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said in a UN speech on September 23 that it was “inevitable” North Korea would launch missiles at the US mainland. That came just days after President Donald Trump used the same venue to declare that America might “totally destroy” North Korea if it continued to threaten the US or its allies. Trump also belittled North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un as "Rocket Man," a petty insult likely to infuriate the notoriously thin-skinned dictator

Hours before Ri’s speech on Saturday, Trump sent US bombers to fly in international waters along the North Korean coast in a provocative show of force. Trump doesn’t appear to have much public support for the belligerence: According a new poll, it turns out that 67 percent of Americans don’t want to attack North Korea preemptively.

And all of that came before Ri this morning threatened to shoot down American warplanes “even when they are not yet inside the aerospace border of our country.”

So it’s safe to say the situation got worse over the past few days, and that the American people are already worried about what’s going on. What follows is a quick recap of the past 72 hours in the US-North Korea standoff. 

The ministry of women and child trafficking told parliament that 19,223 women and children were trafficked last year against 15,448 in 2015, with the highest number of victims recorded in the eastern state of West Bengal.

Collins joins Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Rand Paul (R-KY) in opposing the bill. Because 50 of the 52 Senate Republicans must support Graham-Cassidy for it to pass, those three votes would be enough to kill it.

“Health care is a deeply personal, complex issue that affects every single one of us and one-sixth of the American economy,” Collins said in a statement. “Sweeping reforms to our health care system and to Medicaid can’t be done well in a compressed time frame, especially when the actual bill is a moving target.”

Collins cited three concerns with the bill, which would turn much of Obamacare’s funding into a block grant while also overhauling Medicaid:

After making landfall in Cuba's Camaguey archipelago late Friday, Irma is now bearing down on Florida, where authorities have ordered 6.3 million people to evacuate.

Irma, previously a top-rated category five storm, weakened on Saturday to category four and then to a category three, packing 205 kilometres per hour. On Sunday morning Irma was centered about 90 kilometers south-southeast of Key West, Florida, and was moving northwest near 9 kph. 

With near-hurricane force winds lashing the Florida Keys, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned that "Irma is forecast to restrengthen" as it approaches mainland Florida.
