After the initial Real World examples the rest of the chapter just becomes a plethora of "Oh in this part of the song" and "It's obvious that this sound means this" that is sometimes easily skipped and other times completely un-skip-able if you want to understand what the hecksicle pretzical he's talking about. This forces many newbies to have to sit through a butt load of songs trying to listen to stuff they haven't been trained or taught to listen for.

At the beginning of most chapters, Ratliff usually tries to ease in the concept by introducing it in real world terms instead of musical ones. This is especially useful for readers with little to no experience or knowledge of some of the more musical terms used later in the chapters.

Oh thank the music lord almighty that all the songs are written at the end of each chapter since sometimes the list can be suuuuuper long. It's also pretty cool that he includes songs he mentions in passing and not just the ones he intensively talked about.
