My parents have always supported me. Whether I was Interested In science or the arts they always supported my passion. From a young age they allowed me to go to theater camps and participate in my elementary school's theater program. When I wanted to do art they helped me get the supplies. Without their support I would not have become the artist citizen that I am today. I am also inspired by one of my good friends who creates stories with me in our free time. With her I can bounce ideas off and create new things. Without her I would not have had a free space to create without ridicule or distraction. Even though I spend most of my time with her drawing characters, that training of my artistic hand and eye allows me to design sets better than I could otherwise. I also would like to thank Pinterest for allowing me to brainstorm. I spend so much of my time on Pinterest, looking at ideas and putting together boards for future reference. I also upload things I find on the internet or in real life to its own special board. That way I can have a library of things that inspire me. There’s also all of the media I have consumed over my life. I’ve taken ideas and aesthetics and feelings from the media I watch and read and put it into my own work. To be a good writer or artist you have to be aware of the history that comes before you. I also take great inspiration from aesthetic movements particularly in the US, such as art deco or art nouveau. I like using the motifs and color pallets found there to enhance my own work and give it a sense of time. All in all I am a collection of everything I have ever experienced.

Work life balance

Work life balance is integral to the process of creation. We are all our own instruments. Without proper care and maintenance one is not able to create to their full potential. I do my best to hold space for myself when creating, especially with others. This takes the form of scheduling time for me to hang out with my friends and take care of my daily tasks. If I don’t specifically schedule those things in, I won't do them. On the other hand I also make sure to schedule time to work, so I can keep track of what I’ve done and what I still need to do. I make sure to keep me and my collaborators on the same page by sharing this schedule with them, otherwise we will not be able to communicate and work together. I also keep strict working hours, making sure I am not spending all of my free time working on projects. That will just lead to burn out. I also take time to consume media, specifically media that will make me inspired. If I let myself I will just consume YouTube content that goes in one ear and out the other. To get inspired I need to watch or read something with substance. Something creative that I can pull from in the future. I also hold high standards for how I treat my collaborators and how I expect them to treat me. I will not be talked down to or condescended to. I know my worth as a collaborator. Respecting myself and those that I work with will allow for more fruitful partnerships.

Aspirations

I always hold myself and my collaborators to extremely lofty standards. Whether that be for professional conduct, project scope, deadlines, or other parts of the collaboration process. This is because I hold myself to extremely lofty standards when I work individually. I am always reaching to do better and better with each project, and keep a journal of what I have learned from past projects. I want to design for Broadway before the end of my career, and that isn't going to happen by accident. I need a great portfolio and lots of recommendations from directors and supervisors. In addition to lofty design goals while collaborating, I also value craftsmanship. I see myself as an artisan, and expect the same finesse and expertise from the people I collaborate with. The quality of my work is very important to me. It is so important that I often will make sure I take on the most difficult parts of a project so I can make sure they are done to my standards. Especially in a scholastic setting, where people usually don't give their all to each project. Because of these standards I am really picky about who I collaborate with. I have been working on communicating what I need from my collaborators better, which means I am able to work with more people.
