         <description><![CDATA[<div>Revoked the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and established Kansas and Nebraska as territories that allowed popular sovereignty, majority favor for either slavery or not. As a result of this act, Bleeding Kansas occur. Settlers from both the North and the South flooded Kansas in hopes of recuritng more people onto their side of the issue on slavery. Many dided and the Republican Party was born, something that caused further division in the nation.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Missouri Compromise was passed because it was needed to maintain the balance of power in Congress after gaining new land and the debates between slavery once again started up. Congress made Missouri a slave state and Maine a free state; creating the line that any territory above the 36’30 parallel of slave states would be free.&nbsp;Only temporarily worked, discarded in favor of the Compromise of 1850.</div>]]></description>

Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee seceded because they were unwilling to contribute troops to the union army. During this battle, the first shot was fired, marking the beginning of the Civil War.</div>]]></description>
