My first thoughts about the title “Golden Mother” was that the character in the poem didn’t have a mother, and having one was golden. In addition, it was difficult to return to his hometown as it was expenisve. Gold being something difficult to obtain and valuable could compare to a mother and a chance to return to his hometown.
