While reading, Out of My Mind, I made a connection to Melody, because my mom is a physical therapist, so she teaches kids wit disabilities to improve. I have met several kids with disabilities like her and understand that it is very hard for kids. There are very stereotypical people in the world, and many kids make assumptions and think kids are dumb because of a disability.

The conclusions I have made on the events in the book are to be true to yourself and to not judge a book by its cover. Melody is an amazing human who was unfortunately born with a disability. Even though she was a little different she was super smart, nice, and funny. She made many relationships with people. Throughout the book she was judged by several people, and life was hard. If people just stay true to themselves, and others learn to not judge people after one look, life would be great!

The part of the book that put the best image in my head was when Melody was explaining how much she loved her mom but couldn't tell her. It just hit me hard that Melody is such a loving human, but she couldn't express it with words.

Melody, an eleven year old girl with cerebral palsy, takes on 5th grade without being able to talk or
walk. After facing bullies, and hard-ships in life, she finally has the opportunity that will change her life. She receives a MediTalker, which is a machine that helps her communicate with people. With the MediTalker she hangs with normal kids and enters a national competition in Washington DC. After being left behind by the Whiz Kids group, she feels sad and neglected and feels at fault for her little sisters injury. At the end of the book Melody writes an autobiography, and restarts the book.

I think that the main character Melody changed throughout the book because she started out not being able to socialize and didn't care how she dressed or if she drooled. Towards the middle of the book, she was hanging out with normal kids every week, and started to care more about her looks. Then, she got her MediTalker and talked to everyone and cared about her looks and how she acted in public.

I think the theme of the book is to persevere. Melody never gave up no matter what was happening in her life. She strives to show people she was smarter than they thought. No matter how mean people were to her, she came back to school everyday.

The authors writing styles was very unique and detailed. I felt like I was Melody in some parts of the book. I felt the bad stuff she was going through, and I felt the excitement she had when something went well. I loved how the author wrote in her point of view, it made the story easier to understand.
