Hi Marc,

Looking forward to our meeting coming Friday.

My purpose is to discuss and brainstorm around the topic "The net-zero future of businesses" and particularly the role that business leaders play in leading the necessary transition.

I have created an approach that still needs some fine tuning, however an approach that fits purposes as I see it. I'll take you through the approach and I am interested in your feedback.

For me there are some questions open for discussion / brainstorm.

Do you see the same urgency to act for businesses and can we agree on the role leaders should play?

How can we motivate particularly small and medium enterprises to start picking up the Net-Zero future of businesses?

What ways can we explore to work on this challenge together? How can we approach markets?

What would you add / change looking at my set-up so far?

And I'm sure more points will pop-up.

Furthermore you can take a look at my website with some short videos in which I explain the approach of the program on Net-Zero https://www.consultaquila.nl/net-zero/

For me coming Friday is good to have an open discussion around the topic Leadership in the context of the Net-Zero challenge.

Let's discuss possibilities to work on this team with (new) clients and the possibilities this brings for new and rewarding business.

I do believe we can make a significant difference.

See you soon.

Best regards,

Willem

Welcome to the SDG-Portal!

Where do the communities stand now, on their way to meeting the international sustainability goals (Sustainable Development Goals, SDG)?

SDG Indicators for municipalities

In 2015 the United Nations set international Sustainable Development Goals in its 2030 Agenda. The SDGs are relevant not only at national and regional level, but also at local level.

Objective

The objective of the project “SDG Indicators for municipalities” is to identify suitable indicators to depict the implementation of SDGs at municipal level in Germany and provide corresponding data, if possible.

The identification of suitable indicators is subdivided into the collection, evaluation and selection of indicators for the SDG sub-targets and partial targets that are generally relevant at municipal level in Germany.

Data is provided for all towns and municipalities (Städte / Gemeinden) with a population of more than 5,000 and for all counties (Landkreise).

Methodology

The methodological procedure for developing and providing SDG Indicators for municipalities can be roughly divided into three phases: checking the relevancy of SDGs (phase I), evaluating and describing the indicators (phase II) and the collection and analysis of indicator parameters (phase III).

Phase I comprises three stages: in the first stage, the sub-goals were sub-divided into individual statements (partial goals) where necessary. In the second stage, the question of whether the respective individual goal addresses a major problem for German municipalities (problem check) was assessed. In the third stage, the question of whether municipal tasks could help to contribute to the achievement of the respective individual sub-goal or partial goal (task check) was examined.

Phase II consisted of four stages: in stage one, selected indicator catalogues and databases were used in order to assign the indicators they contained to the sub-goals or partial goals that were classed as relevant. In the second stage, all indicators were checked for validity, comprehensibility, data availability, data quality and function, which allowed a better assessment of the overall quality of the indicators. In the third stage, particularly suitable parameters were selected for the SDG Indicators catalogue. In stage four, info profiles gave detailed descriptions of the selected indicators.

Phase III concentrated on the collection and analysis of indicator parameters. As far as possible, data collection extended to all towns and municipalities (Städte / Gemeinden) with a population of more than 5,000 and to all counties (Landkreise); although the data are not collected by the municipalities directly but by central sources. The data are provided by the SDG-Portal. The purpose of data analyses was to arrive at a better understanding of the interrelations between Type I Indicators.

You can find more information on the methods used at agenda2030vorort.de.

Organisation

A working group was formed. The members of the working group “SDG Indicators for municipalities” are Bertelsmann Stiftung, the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR), the German County Association (DLT), the Association of German Cities (DST), the German Association of Towns and Municipalities (DStGB), the German Institute of Urban Studies (Difu), the European Secretariat of ICLEI and the German section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR).

Breaking Boundaries tells the story of the most important scientific discovery of our time - that humanity has pushed Earth beyond the boundaries that have kept Earth stable for 10,000 years, since the dawn of civilization. The 75-minute film takes the audience on a journey of discovery of planetary thresholds we must not exceed, not just for the stability of our planet, but for the future of humanity. It offers up the solutions we can and must put in place now if we are to protect Earth’s life support systems.

WHY HAVE WE WRITTEN THIS BOOK?

There is no doubt. We are living in a time marked by great upheaval and volatility. Leaders - both political and business - are being forced to cope with rising challenges: resource scarcity; high levels of stress in the work place; disruptive innovations; social inequality; constant competition for top talent; rapid digitization and globalization; mass migrations; fragile supply chains; mounting social tensions; political extremism; and much more.

On top of all this, the climate of our planet is breaking down and we are facing what scientists have called the sixth mass extinction.

Our production systems are based on a linear, take-make-waste approach. Our financial systems based on short-term profit maximization that ignore life and debase human integrity. Our organizational systems are dominated by hyper-competition, power-and-control hierarchies, and rising stress.

We need a new approach that values life. A new leadership logic where organisations flourish, ecosystems thrive and people feel alive. This is what Regenerative Leadership is all about.
