Stephen king has had many failures before his famous book, Carrie was published. Before all of that, he was considered trash. He got frustrated and threw his draft in the bin. Later that day, his wife pulled the pages out of the trash and told him to keep going. To keep writing. He was ready quit. To him, the days of writing were done. It was time to grow up and focus on his “real job.” But his wife insisted. “You’ve got something good here. Keep going.” So, he did. When the book was done, he sent it out to a list of publishers. The response was exactly what he expected: No. Rejection letter after rejection letter came in the mail. 30 in total.

An example of someone who had a setback is Bethany Hamilton. She grew up in Hawaii and was an amazing surfer. In 2003, her left arm was bitten off by a shark. It was incredible that she even survived and any other person would’ve given up surfing forever but in 26 days she was back at it. She is now an extremely successful one armed surfer and has been in the Olympics many times.

I think that failure or suffering can make us try harder to achieve our goals. There are many people who where told that they wouldn’t achieve their goals but ended up still being able to work their way to the top, for example: Oprah because she had a very hard childhood, and was told that she wouldn’t ever become a star or be famous, however her show became the highest rated talk show in the history of American Television.
