In this short story, I pictured a mother trying to teach her daughter how to be an admired woman. While her mother may not have had all the right words, she was expressing her love to her daughter. I still thought it was a bit harsh to call her daughter a slut, however, we are all affected by words differently.

In this short story, it seems at first when a woman had heard of her husbands tragic death she was overcome with helpless sorrows; as she found the courage to be alone she seemed to have flashbacks and finally have the freedom she had been longing for, for so long. Once she seemed to gather her composure she found out his death was mistaken and she then died of shock or as some of us may see it, she died to be free.

This short story was rather interesting. A woman more happy with her pet bird than her own marriage. Maybe the woman believed in an eye for an eye and since her husband clearly disliked the bird and rung its neck, she just returned the gesture. Mrs. Wright didn't seem like disturbing individual, however, it is hard to really know a person you don't know!

This poem is one that I wrote about in my essay, it grabs the readers attention because it speaks to us in a different way. The vulgarity of it brings the truth to life. Langston Hughes was certainly a good writer and knew how to tell his stories in different ways.

Little did Langston Hughes know that during the Harlem Renaissance America was only full of opportunity to a certain race.

Just like the title, this story is all about a life lesson. I think the graphic below shows a good indication of someone carrying something but we don't always know what it is and it relates heavily to the story "The Things They Carried", by Tim O'Brien.
