Create a folder with your team name in the 2026 GameChanger Team Space. Then introduce your team to the community. You can do that by uploading whatever cool media you want to use (video, audio, cartoon, text, poster etc).

Visit the GameChanger Girls Hall of Fame and select some games to download, import and play. All these games were designed by students just like you. We hope you will enjoy playing them just as much as the students had fun designing them for you. They will help you see how varied esports games can be.

Select from other Recommended Minecraft-based esports games. You should play some of these to see how esports competition is played.

You will need to select how many of the winning GameChanger Tournament games you would like to compete over. They vary from time trials (complete as fast as you can) to battle games (require competing live). Download and import the games and practice running them in your team/s.

1. Time to design

Working in your team design your own esports game. Be as crazy, imaginative and creative as you can. Our primary tool is Minecraft, but you can design your game in any tool you are familiar with, as long as we can all play your final game.

6. Playtest your game

Have others play your game and give you feedback. Maybe host a lunch and have other kids come play your game. Or invite friends and family to play. Make sure you don't leave this too late to be able to fix any serious issues.

Get people excited about playing your game with your fun promo video, cartoon, poster or other cool media. Share your promo on the SharePoint site in your team folder.

2. Upload your game file

Upload your tested game file on the GameChanger Girls SharePoint site in your allocated team folder.

3. Download and play other games

Gather your team to download and play other team games. Get through as many games as you can and give constructive feedback on each. Take the time mention the aspects you enjoyed or ways the play could be improved. The PMI chart on SharePoint will guide you to give quality feedback.

Individually and anonymously, you will rate all the games you have played (5 team members = 5 voters). You will rate each game across several categories answering how:

original
attractive
engaging
well-explained
great as a possible tournament game.

2. Winners Announced

Firstly, we privately send community feedback to every team that submits a game (including their scores). The winners are then announced in each category of game design as well as community engagement and feedback friends.

We use forms and leaderboards to record and display your best run times in our speed run games,. And Live tournaments for PVP and team-based challenges.

For instance:

Save the Beans (individual speed run times)
Exploding Gamers (team speed run times)
And a live online playoff for the Killer Cows PVP game.

3. Write up your design

OK so you can't include all the ideass in your brainstorm. Now its time to edit the ideas down into one fab esports-oriented game. Use the GameChanger Girls Game Design Template to step through your game design, how do you describe it, how is it played, how is it won and ideas for how we might host a tournament around it?

4. Begin building your game

Here's where you get to make your game come to life. Using Minecraftt Education or whatever game design tools your team can collaborate over, build your game. Don't be afraid to edit your original design if somethings don't work. You can revise your game design doc as you work thorugh this. You are most welcome to use AI, friends, teachers or mentors to create/code the game interaction/mechanics you want. That's part of the creative problem solving but always remember whose game this is. If AI is part of your design team, make sure to acknowledge that in some way.

5. Create your game promo video

Create a fun promo video. There might be lots of games to play and you want people to play yours. Think about some of the fun trailers you have seen for games, movies, books and other popular media. If you're not into video you might create a poster, cartoon or even a catchy song to attract people to your game. Make sure to give credit to all the members of your team including AI if you used it.

2. Brainstorm your ideas

Get a giant piece of paper or whiteboard and as a team brainstorm all your cool ideas for your game. Think about games you've played and what you found fun. Dream up all your own exciting ideas. Don't rule out and ideas at this stage and make sure everyones ideas are included. Don't forget to take a photo of this when you are finished.
