The two improvements points are:

The key decisions I made was to utilise the technique of resin casting and mild making. Also settling down on the theme of not creating something beautiful but rather horrifying and out-of-the-norm.

The thing I learnt from this project is commitment. How I should able to fully commitment to my work, and put high amount of effort and time onto creating art.

This artwork of mine still has many shortcomings. If my ability allows, I would like to make the background more cyberpunk. If possible, I would like to expand the background a bit. The bone part is a bit droopy and I didn't think about the mechanics part.

After completing this module, I have learnt a lot about the world of art. How can one create art, how should we value our art, and the audiences, and so much more? This module gave us an introduction to how we should approach our lifestyle and journey as artists. 

I would say this module has pushed me out of my comfort zone. Which I am very glad about. At first, I was still stuck to just ‘drawing’ and traditional art. But it introduced me to materials and techniques that are new and challenging to me. I am sure that this whole year of artmaking will be an important core memory for me in life.

The strong suit in this amazing project finished by Michelle Hon so the the overall theme and production is well finished and considered. The whole project is like a full series with shared insights and theme. The finishing of the pet strap art is very well done and detailed. And also the stall set up is well coordinated.

The two improvements I would suggest are:

• The scale of the artwork could be larger

• The arrangement of the artworks could be considered more since some of the artwork is overly blended together, making it sometimes hard to define wether or not it is in the series

Reflection

This year has transformed me both as an artist and as an individual. Through exploring new mediums, I discovered my true passion for painting —a path I now confidently pursue. I've learned to embrace feedback, both positive and critical, as essential fuel for growth. Most importantly, I realized that artistic success isn't just about skill or passion, but also sustainability: balancing focused work with self-care protects both my health and my creative spark. These lessons —discovery, resilience, and mindfull practice-have given me not just better art but a stronger foundation for my future as an artist.

Advantages: Creative combination of traditional Chinese culture and relief

Disadvantages: Carving technique, the fish can try to change direction

I am satisfied with my own arrangement and boldly cut the A1 board, using a different approach from my classmates to express my ideas temporarily.

• The set up could be nicer because it seems like the main pieces are separated from the booth

Review of her project

The project is amazing. The details and hard-work is well seen through her work. The tiles are well drawn and colourful with the theme being close to our culture. The sketches and process are also impressive. Sharing the same detailed look and feeling to them.

Review

The theme over love is a pretty common nowadays . I can see the things about over love and see some connection between them. But the work can’t really see the topic you want to express .

-have a thought of using PET strap to form graphic or character works

-to collect old related objects and search for old news from the Hong Kong Central Library

Self reflection

-For the first semester, as the way of the tutor limited our materials or medium of art form, it directly leads me to try to make crafts instead of drawing, I tried four new medium to create artpieces, which is embroidery on aluminium foil, beads curtain, weaving PET straps and beading tiny handcraft.

 On the other hand, during the second semester, since I chose to continue working on PET straps, and changed my theme from Hong Kong signboard to Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market, that are both related to Hong Kong’s culture disappearing from the implementation of urban renewal.

In the use of the material of PET strap, i found out the possibility of it, the strap can form both 2D and 3D shapes. Primarily, I just think of using strap to form flat surface or boxed shape, as it is easy and normally we will only think of weaving it squared alternately, such as the bamboo and rattan basket we can see in daily life.

Disadvantages

3. Higher Costs: Production can be more complex, leading to increased prices for consumers.

Successful sewing technique. The different combinations with the peels have a natural color scheme. Finally, the photography technique was used to express the emotions. Successfully achieved the sense of sight, smell and touch. I feel that I am making progress.

There are two areas that I need to improve, the first one is that I think I should learn some theories of clothing design. The paper pattern for the cape was not perfect. If I had enough time, I think I could have made it double-sided, and it would have had more feeling.

The idea was to repair emotional damage and relationships. It is also true that the dress has improved my relationship with my friends and family. The act of touching the orange and sharing the fruit and the act of sewing made me feel calmer and more willing to communicate with others. I really like the quote in my centerpiece. Find strength in imperfection, so my work is also imperfect and irregular, but I accept it.

- The edges of the frames are not colored.

What I think needs to be improved is that I don't think the space for his scene setting is too good. As well as the style of the clothes, I also think that there can be a little bit of small changes, may appear this thing more dynamic cute and interesting!

However, the journey was not without its challenges. While I prided myself on rapid execution, certain design elements revealed room for refinement. For instance, choices around wax color and material selection occasionally felt disconnected from the project’s thematic essence. In hindsight, a deeper analysis of the core theme—such as the symbolic significance of endurance—might have guided more intentional material decisions. Similarly, experimenting with alternative mediums could have elevated the visual and conceptual coherence of the final piece.

A pivotal moment in the creative process was my decision to handcraft wax figures rather than outsourcing them. While custom-made candles (designed to burn for seven hours) initially seemed practical, I chose to sculpt the figures myself. This choice stemmed from a desire to immerse myself in the tactile process, ensuring precise control over textures and durability. More importantly, it transformed the project into a learning opportunity—a chance to master wax sculpting while aligning the material’s symbolic longevity (the seven-hour burn time) with the metaphor of enduring a “long night.”

The project also taught me to think holistically about presentation. Questions like *How do I suspend installations to evoke a specific mood?* or *What spatial arrangements enhance viewer engagement?* became integral to my process. I explored吊装 techniques, experimenting with height and balance to create an immersive environment. These considerations underscored the importance of exhibition design as an extension of the artwork itself.

This project deepened my understanding of balancing creativity with technical rigor. Strengths like agile planning and innovative plaster casting were tempered by lessons in thematic alignment and material experimentation. Handcrafting wax figures taught me the value of hands-on craftsmanship, while symbolic choices (e.g., seven-hour candles) emphasized conceptual storytelling. Designing the exhibition space revealed how spatial dynamics shape viewer experience. Moving forward, I aim to integrate symbolic materials more intentionally and explore unconventional mediums. Ultimately, the experience highlighted that art is not just about execution—it thrives at the intersection of deliberate planning, fearless experimentation, and a willingness to let the process itself inform the outcome.

reflections

For the work Crumble, this is the work i like the most, which the materials are unknown for me, idk how to create the skin, and the stretch and thickness of the skin are really mind blown and impressive. If the scale are bigger and have lighting on it, the shadows of the skins and nails can help enhance the fearfulness.

I feel like I could do another synthesis with other materials besides pottery. It might be more interesting. For example, it would be more interesting to add something realistic to make a stack or change the angle.

To refine it, consider adding more varied textures to break the visual monotony. Also, incorporating some multimedia elements, like short audio clips of city sounds, could heighten the immersive experience.

The visual design of both projects is clean and professional. The product mock - ups for “Aroma Amulet” are aesthetically pleasing, and the information layout for “AroBay” is user - friendly.

However, for “AroBay,” incorporating more interactive elements in the website design mock - ups could make it more engaging. For “Aroma Amulet,” additional real - life case studies or testimonials on the positive impact of the amulets would strengthen the concept.
