I thought that the author did a great job taking the importance of a name and taking it to a big idea. I enjoyed every single part of the book even though some were sad and others were happy and enthusiastic. I thought that Rump really brought out the thought that you don't need to have the coolest name to have friends. The book Rump shows that there is nothing more important than what is on the inside more than what is on the outside. I enjoyed that the author took the original story of Rumpelstiltskin and made the reader think that Rump would be bad but when the Liesl Shurtliff took the story and moved it around. There were different people that maybe weren't bad in the original story . The Miller, Opal, Frederick and Bruno were all examples of this. Rump is a very good, inspiring, book that makes the reader burst with excitement and anxiety. I would recommend the book Rump by Liesl Shurtliff to anyone including the people who need to find why they have a name. Rump solves all of the problems and the sorrows that you might have because of your name. It was very moving and it had a very interesting meaning. I think the theme would most likely be, you can't let your name or anything else decide your destiny, you must make it for yourself and the choices you make will decide what your destiny looks like in the end. Also, sometimes you have to realize that you are stronger than you realize and you can overpower maybe the evil seed that you started from. But, you have to be the one who does that and makes that happen. I thought when the author,  Liesl Shurtliff added the authors note at the end it really wrapped the story up in a perfect way. I have always thought my name was very, very interesting because I have always been a kind of stubborn, hotheaded person and my name is Grace. So when people meet me they immediately think I am very sweet kind loving caring person all the time. Well... I am sometimes but I can definitely surprise them by how I may act sometimes. I get different traits from my parents and each of them come together to make a very different personality. My name has always been one that I have loved, but never really knew the definite meaning of it. My brother actually goes by his middle name and he uses his actual first name as his middle name, which I have always found very interesting because I always seem to forget and I get so used to him going by his middle name that when his actual first name comes up it seems very weird. I think that names are a very interesting thing and I wonder who originally though that we should all go by something that distinguish's us from everyone else around us. I think that is a good thing though, because if none of us had special names it would all be a confusing mess and no one would really be special any more. But, I do think that we shouldn't let are names decide everything for us in life. I this book your name gives you your destiny and your destiny is your name. Rump is a dynamic character. He changes by first thinking that his name was as bad as it could get. Next, he goes and saves Opal and then goes to Yonder and meets his aunts. He learns that his name is Rumple and has a worse name and destiny than before. Now he knows that he is ensnared by the magic. Later he realizes that a good thing can come out of something bad. You can make your own decisions and shape your life. Bork taught Rump a very important thing, this tree grew from a poison apple but the apples made their own decisions. At first Rump doesn't realize that he can make his own decision for his life. A name doesn't make your destiny, you do. When Rump didn't know this, he gave up and was caught in a rumple just like his name. He then later realizes that he can make his name based on his own destiny. Not letting his name control his life. He then realizes that his name is a rumple that a stilt skin fixes. This book really dove into what a name can mean. My name was never something I wanted to change, yet for Rump it was almost like a trap, hence the first part of his name. This story is so descriptive and the author found a way to use every part of his name for something. Yet even though he believed his name was useless and his destiny was terrible the whole time, he made it to Yonder and helped Opal with the name Rump. I wonder what a name is if you don know it? Is it still your destiny or is the other name you believe is your name your destiny. I want to no the name of the mountain. I was hoping it would be something funny like lapersnapper. Destiny is mentioned throughout the whole story. Destiny in the story comes from your name. Yet if you look at the story, whose names were used as the people who were good. Ida, Red, Rump, Hadel, Bork, Slop. et if you look at the names that are considered to be amazing and great where do they lead you. Oswald, Freddrick, Bruno, the king (The name is too long to type out.) The moral of the story is that no matter how you think destiny holds you, you have the power to change it. You hold destiny in your hands. And if you can shape destiny is it even destiny? Rump learned that destiny is less of something set in stone, but more of something you can mold, like clay. This is kind of unusual because most of the time I am not a huge fan of re-makes of the original fairy tales, yet I really liked this book! Anyway, one reason I like this book is that it connected to the author, Rump needed to discover his "real" name and was embarrassed because of his name like the author when she was young. Plus, I really like the name "Liesl" and if spell-check says it is spelled wrong. Another reason is, well, because I really like the characters. This book gave new light on people like Little Red Riding Hood and trolls. People have always told me to say it again, or spell it out for them. Like you said in the authors note, I can never find anything with my name on it. I sometimes feel left out and different. I feel that you can change your destiny, and you shouldn't let other people shape it for you. What I mean by this is, don't let other people control you and your life. I´ve never been a big fan of fairy tales, but this book is amazing. The characters in this book were really relateable and I feel like all of them had different perspectives on what was going on. The description of the landscapes and buildings really made you want to picture what they would look like in real life. I always pictured the mountain as being a small town in Scotland in the 1700´s with farms and small huts made of logs. My favorite character was Gran because she was so nice and just wanted what was best for Rump. Nothing was a close second though. Throughout the book, there was so much detail. I felt as if I was actually there walking with Rumpelstiltskin along his journey. I'm so glad that Mrs. Mueller chose this book to read aloud to us. My favorite character in this book was Red. Red was so funny and sometimes reminded me of Vola in the book, "Pax". They both were helpful to the main character, and they both were funny. In my opinion, there should be a sequel to "Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin" about Red and her destiny. It would be cool to read about her thoughts and feelings. Also, I wonder what her destiny would be. Another reason why, is because Red is a tale already, Red is Little Red Riding Hood. In this book, Red's grandmother was the grandmother that was shoved in the closet and was impersonated by the wolf. The stuff the author said about names was very interesting. If my name was my destiny, I would be a park ranger. That sounds cool, but I would want to be able to control my destiny through hard work. I wonder what it would be like if my full name wasn't Parker. What if it was Parkerdon, or Parkerbud. That would be weird. Liesl is a very interesting but nice name. I would probably get inspired to write a book like this if my name was Liesl. The idea to write this book was mind-blowing. First of all, I didn't even know what Rumpelstiltskin was until we ead the book. Secondly, a place where names were destiny would be weird. What if my parents actually did give me a name like Rump? That would be weird. But Rump was a very good book.

At the end of the book  Leisl Shurtliff asks, What is the meaning of your name?   I think your name defines you, it makes you who you are. also I think it would be hard to change what your called after being called something your whole life. like if I suddenly wanted to be called Maddie instead of Madelyn, it would be so hard for me an others to start calling me Maddie. It also annoys me sometimes when people spell my name wrong since there is two ways to spell it or if I'm trying to find my name on the key chains that have your name on them and my name isn't spelled right or its not even there. I would feel really bad if I was Rump and people called me ridiculous names like butt. Rump was really depressed and upset by his name, but he manages to get around the "destiny" that comes with the name Rump, and later finds out that is not his full name. Over the course of the book, Rump is really transformed. He becomes more confident in himself and his abilities, and learns you make your own destiny. I think that what Liesel Shurtliff said about destiny and names at the end is so true! Your will is definitely more powerful than your name and destiny. I think the theme of Rump is that you can do anything if you set your mind to it. The theme also might be you make your own destiny.
