There are endless perks and advantages to joining the military. There is health care, GI bill, salary, experiences, etc. You also are able to find a right career choice within the military!
STEPS
  1.  Meet with recruiting officer 
  2. Take Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)- 3 hour questionnaire to seek what is the right fit for you. 
  3. Pass physical exam- regular exam given by family doctor.
  4. Meet with counselor and determine career- review requirements, ASVAB, availability, and need. 
  5. Oath of Enlistment- direct or delayed (when you begin basic training).

  • A period of time you take to explore your options and what you want to do in life. It's a time to learn what you didn't in school. Learn about yourself. 
  • Although many believe it must be before college and you need to be a certain age, you can take a gap year at any time/ for however long you wish, and at any age. 
Can I still go to college? 
  • Yes! In fact you should apply before taking your gap year. School counselors are there to help you through this process. Once applying and being admitted, a student who knows they wish to take a gap year should write a deferment letter to their school of choice in April-June outlining what they are doing with their gap year. A school will either accept or deny your deferment acceptance. 
What about my financial aide and scholarship money? 
  • With financial aide you will need to reapply, however as long as your families financial situation is the same, you will receive the same benefit. As for scholarships many schools will holdout for a year, however that is up to the schools discretion.

Will I be able to transition after a gap year okay?
  • Taking a gap year allows you to seek better understanding of yourself and what you want to do in the world. You have gained experience and have been living to make a means. At the end of the gap year many may find themselves more confident in their independence, more mature than many peers, and know exactly what they want to do in life. There, transitions to college should be smoother with a more confident outlook.

Trade schools provide skill and instruction to well known and hands on needed careers. Careers such as auto repairs, electrician, hard dressers, etc. are all paths you can take by taking the route of a trade school.

  2. Graduation Rate- on average how many of the students graduate?
  3. Up to date facility? Is the school still using past time technology or books? 
  4. Services provided- Counseling, employment seeking help, internship opportunities, etc. 
  5. Tuition- compare the tuition fees with other schools. What is this school offering and how much versus another. 
-May receive financial aide and loans
-Do they offer a degree, certification or license? Seek information about what your career requires in order to find a job. 
-Take career tests to help find the right path for you
