North Korea is lead by Kim Jong-un and is mainly a dictatorship as well as republic. There government consists of three branches, administrative, legislative and judicial. Kim Jong-un uses fear and punishment to keep his citizens doing what he wants he uses things such as re-eduacation camps and has people who watch and make sure the citizens are obbeying all enforced rules. There government is in total control of everyone and even uses propaganda to redirect peoples thinking. Anyone who talks bad or thinks bad about there leader are sometimes given death penalty.

Rights Citizens Don't Have

Sadly in North Korea the citizens have very little rights. They can have no contact with outside world and travel restrictions are very strict. They are not allowed to have own personal political beliefs or religious and are definitely not allowed to express themselves . They are forced to work and pretty much do whatever Kim Jong-un wants. If citizens disobey these rules they are put into camps in which they are forced to do things, tortured and they are subjected to experimentation. They make executions and punishments public to insert fear into citizens so they obey.
picture-

Election of Leaders

As of the moment Kim Jong-un is the supreme leader of North Korea. Surprisingly North Korea holds mandatory elections (17 years and older). These elections are watched very closely and fear of punishment if they don't elect correct choice is a huge factor. Each district is represented by a candidate chosen by government. They get two choices either yes or no to vote for that single candidate if they decide to choose no that could possible lead to punishment then those candidates are given a seat in office. And for selecting the supreme leader its the same, they get the choice of yes or no.
picture-

Laws

The laws enforced in North Korea are very harsh and in my opinion very hard to abide to. If laws are disobeyed and not listen to punishments are very seriously taken. A super weird law is that you cant listen to foreign music or even call people outside of their country, if these odd laws are disobeyed death or being sent to camps would be punishment. In north Korea there is something called "three generations rule" which means that if a citizen goes against a law and gets punished, immediate family may as well have to endure there punishment as well. Usually that only refers to if that person is sent to a camp then there family has to go with and the next two generations born in that camp have to stay as well. Another very odd law that has to be obeyed is that you can only get one of the 28 approved by government hairstyles. And you cant even own a bible.
picture --

South Korea vs North Korea

South Korea and north Korea are totally opposite. The South Korean government is not a dictatorship and gives there citizens so many more freedoms than North Korea does. They don't enforce odd inhumane laws and punishments and they school most of all there citizens. They can listen to foreign music and do what they please in a reasonable matter. South Korea is kinda like the U.S in a sense and actually lets their citizens be free and heard.
