Many people, at work or in schools, assume all homeless people are drug addicts and it's their fault. It upsets me, because I volunteer at the Bridges shelter and heard their stories, and hearing people assume their situations are influenced by drugs really makes me mad. Every story is different. No one ever thinks to research where money goes. There are charities that do take the majority of the money. But for the ones that don't, there is negative energy surrounding the idea of giving $30 a month, because people don't know where the money is going. Take a look at the "About Us" page on a website. Many charities tell you EXACTLY where the money is going. And the people who say, "Why are charities spending money on ads rather than giving that money to the poor?" Advertisements brinin TONS of revenue in which gathers supporters. More money is made than spent on advertisements. Charities are used to help people all around the world in situations that are dangerous, or worse than ours. Overexaggerating mental illness and romanticizing it is not breaking the stigma, it is adding to it. Anxiety and depression are not "beautiful". They are diseases in mind.
