Hey! Patrick Jan Lastra here! I am a Multimedia Arts student and is currently studying at Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao. Illustrating and Film are one of the things that I enjoy doing in my leisure time. Here are 5 of the most interesting things that I learned all throughout the journey in the course Philippine pop culture. First would be the trending toy which is “Lato-Lato”, which was a very famous toy even in 1900's and got it's resurgence at the start of the year. Second would be filipino memes that up until now are still a hit and trending. Third is filipino actors who are confined to a “Love team”. Fourth is the high rising of filipino rappers that are now being recognized globally, and Lastly variety shows in the Philippines especially singing variety shows.

As an aspiring film maker, I always ponder on my mind that being versatile is the way for me to be more flexible, most especially if we are talking about film and film production. I noticed in the Philippines that big companies like ABS-CBN and GMA are fond of creating this so-called love teams, to name a few love teams like Kathniel, Jadinem, Aldub, Joshlia and such. My hot take for this is that If I were to build an uprising star, I would not recommend on sticking with the Love team set-up. Confinement is the best word to describe this scenario since it limits the artists’ potential to grow and to explore different roles that they might be more efficient. Looking now at the current progress of love teams in the Philippines, some love teams are now branching out which is a good way to explore one’s true potential and that definitely growth not only for the actor but also for the industry.

For the pressing issue that I have chosen which is the Love team scenarios in the Philippines, it became a tool in the industry for an establishment of a strong name and a strong fan base that can help boost their engagement and of course in the long run the ratings for their shows, films, music etc. To give more light on the said matter that for all this kind up bringing as an uprising actor or actress can really build a fan base that can help you be known in the industry. Being in this kind of set up may be sad in a way that they are locked in with each other, with no escape of exploring new roles, but in the context of Filipino being more inclined with this kind of set up may lean on towards a cultural matter since, we Filipinos really love the idea of a perfect couple that gives the energy of a loving and thriving relationship.

A theory that can carry this phenomenon is the theory Uses and Gratification theory. This theory uses a centered approach that focuses on how people use media as a way of gratification for their own personal use. The “Love team” phenomena can anchor on the Uses and Gratification theory, since the so-called “love teams” will garner more of their fame and fortune through their acts with the help of social media and technology. One very known “love team” that was quite a success is the tag team duo of Aldub, where they were able to held a concert in the largest indoor arena in the world the “Philippines Arena” with their fanbase they were able to tap all age groups.
