The most Important and delicious is Kutia. It is cooked of wheat grains, poppy seeds, honey or sugar, nuts, raisins. When we can see the first star on the sky we pray and enjoy our meals.While many of the Ukrainian Christmas Eve customs are of a solemn nature, the custom of caroling is joyful and merry. Ukrainian Christmas songs or carols have their origins in antiquity, as do many other traditions practiced at Christmas time. Koliadky are the oldest groups of Ukrainian folk songs. They are sung by Ukrainians at Christmas time throughout the world.

Christmas and new year traditions in my family

Before all celebrations begin typically in my family we make a complete cleaning. After that we decorate the Christmas tree and also the windows with different lights and snowflakes. In Ukraine New Year is a week earlier than Christmas so we always make a delicious dinner and stay awake till like midnight on December 31. When the clock turns to 12 we listen to the president of Ukraine who every year wishes us happiness and luck.

Well it is Christmas Eve my family tries not to quarrel with each other at all and of course mom and granny cook 12 Lenten dishes including kutya, fried fish and vareniks.On Christmas we always have big family gathering with lots of tasty dishes and my relatives also like to sing Christmas songs very loudly.

Before New Year We buy a Christmas tree and make Christmas toys. In Ukraine the New Year celebrates a week early then Christmas.This year I celebrated it with my friends. We listend to the president's wishes and ate 12 grapes while the clock was knocking. On the sixth of January at dinner we celebrate a poor diner. We prepare 12 fasting dishes, one of which is a traditional kutia. In a Christmas we are meeting with relatives . We talk, sing carols, play games.

Christmas is one of the most amazing and beloved holidays in my family. We celebrate this holiday in a cozy, warm atmosphere, with wonderful Christmas songs. Although my family hasn't special traditions, but we, like most families in Ukraine, cook kutia, uzvar, baked fish and many other different dishes. Also we like to decorate our house with various garlands and lights, a Christmas socks and of course a Christmas tree.
All things considered, for my family, Christmas is a small gathering only with the immediate family and some close friends.

In my family there is no specific traditional for celebrating Christmas we celebrate it just like most Ukrainians. On Christmas Eve all the family and close relatives gather together and my mom prepares 12 Lenten dishes. These are some of them:kutya,uzvar,fried fish,meatless soup, braised mushrooms,millet porrige, salad with pickless. I usually help my mother with Kutia and salads. We cook Kutia as most Ukrainians do: wheat grains, poppy seeds, honey, nuts and raisins.

Also an integral part of Christmas is an ancient Ukrainian tradition - koliada(caroling). Koliadky are the oldest groups of Ukrainian folk songs. I used to do it in vertep(a group of children who change their clothes, show people the birth of Christ and wish people all the best in new year by their koliadky) but now i do it only by myself for close relatives.

So, that's how my family spends christmas evening.

Christmas is the main holiday in the world. There are many different traditions of celebration this day in many countries. My family don't have any different Christmas traditions. Before New Year we decorate Christmas tree with girlands, toys. We hang lights in every bedroom and dress out the door with a wraith.
At 6th of January, Christmas day, all my family cook together 12 dishes with Christmas films or songs. At Christmas Eve we must eat 12 dishes, also we sing a Ukrainian carols ( Koliadky ). At 7th, 8th and 9th of January children go to every house to congratulate with the birth of Christ with Koliadky and poems. People give money or sweets to children.

Christmas is always associated with a festive atmosphere, presents and carols but not for me. It is not a secert that our parents and relatives go abroad to earn money, so Christmas is one of the few events that can unite the immediate family, the extended family and a distant family at one table.
This year gave me the opportunity to spend one more day with my dearest people.
My family and I follow religious traditions. We always make Kutia and Uzvar, sing carols and visit our relatives. It helps us to become closer.

Christmas is a special holiday in my family because a lot of relatives come to me for this holiday and we have a lot of fun. In the evening of January 6, for a holy dinner, we go to grandma and grandpa, put on the table Diduh and 12 fasting meals. On New Year's Eve, I am actively preparing, cleaning the whole house, buying gifts, and helping my mother prepare New Year's meals. Bake gingerbread cookies. We decorate the Christmas tree with color baubles and lights together. We hang a wreath on the door too. On the 31st we celebrate the new year with a delicious dinner, at 0:00 we make wishes and go to watch the fireworks)

Christmas is the most expecting holiday in my family. We always celebrate it with our relatives. On the Christmas Eve my mother cooks different dishes like vareniks with berries, kutya with honey and nuts, baked fish and potatoes and makes uzvar. My family has some traditions. The funniest for me is to crow under the table. As we have hens at home, we do it and then in the spring they hatch chikens better. On the first day of Christmas we visit my gradparents. My aunt, uncle and cousins go there too. We all have a nice time and then sing carols together. On the second day of Christmas we visit my granny at the village. Christmas is a day of joy and delicious food. On Christmas our family follow a lot of folk Ukrainian tradition. Every year we all go to our granny and celebrate Christmas. In granny home have already stood Christmas tree which have already decorated with ornament.
This year my family made me and my sister to sing Christmas carols. We sang and people gave us sweets or money. It was fun!
On our table should be 12 dishes. Here are dishes such as: kutia, olivie salad, turkey, sandwiches with caviar, salad vinaigrette, meatless soup, fried fish and other.
Every Christmas my grandpa put on the end of the table clove of garlic. This action protect home against evil ghost. And I saw the Star of Bethlehem this year in the sky. it was wonderful! I really like Christmas and Christmas traditions and I enjoy about my winter holiday.

Christmas in my family

Christmas in my family is a special holiday. Every year all my relatives come to our house and we have a big dinner. At Christmas Eve, which is on the 6th of January, my mum and I cook 12 meatless dishes including grilled fish, roasted potatoes, cabbage with mushrooms, different salads with seafood and of course kutia. After dinner, we are waiting for children who come to our house and sing carols. Also the choir from our church comes to us, sings carols and we donate some money for the development of our church. The next day all my family go to the cathedral to pray for the health and welfare of all our relations! Unfortunately, this year we didn’t go to the church because of quarantine. But we hope that next time the situation will change and we’ll be able to according to all our customs and traditions.

In our family Christmas is one of the most important holiday and it one of the most anticipated event.We start preparing for this one in a month. My family tries to keep Ukrainian traditions, so every year we spend Christmas holidays as we should. I also decorate our house for the New Year and decorate the Christmas tree. Everyone in our family is looking forward to winter, because in winter everyone celebrates our favorite holiday - Christmas. We respect and appreciate this holiday very much, because at this time the whole family gathers together. This is a time for fun, joy, happiness and wonder. Usually at Christmas we visit grandparents in the village. There, together with them before Christmas Eve, we make a small nativity scene - a basket with hay and figurines symbolizing the birth of Christ. Then mom and grandma are preparing holiday meals. There should be 12. Our table usually has kutia (main course), mashed potatoes or buckwheat, fried or baked fish, vegetables, a few salads and snacks without meat.

After dinner, my sister and I go to other homes to traditionally sing carols and get something from the hosts.

The next day, just at Christmas, we visit relatives and have fun.
I really love Christmas! It is a wonderful and bright holiday that fills our hearts with happiness and goodness.

At first we cooked some dishes at home. Then as usual I and my parents went to my grandma. She lives in a village. We always celebrate Christmas together. Then came grandparents from Lutsk (my grandma's brother and his wife). We decorated the table with candles and puted on it twelve meatless dishes. Here are some of them: fried fish, uzvar, some salads, rice with vegetables etc. And of course there was the main dish of Christmas kutia. Also we puted one extra plate and glass for our dead relatives. When everything was done we standed near the table, prayed and tasted the kutia. Then we sat down and had dinner. After that we sang Ukrainian Christmas songs or carols together. We have got a little book with many carols. When we sang I felt amazing, it was really good feeling of comforr. Then we talked about everything the family could talk about. We prayed again and went to our beds. We had breakfast together as usual and then went home.
We always celebrate Christmas with grandparents in the village with delicious dishes, a lot of lights, cozy atmosphere and good carols.

And the reason for this holiday is the birth of Christ, which took place many thousands of years ago. In Ukraine, this holiday is celebrated on January 7. On this day, all Ukrainian housewives prepare a large number of different dishes, but the main dish is considered to be kutia, it is in every home. further all other dishes. In my family this holiday does not differ from all above. My grandmother and I cooked something during the day. The men helped us. When evening came, we lit a candle, said a prayer and ate kutia, and then everything else under various conversations, then carolers came to us and sang a beautiful carol, we thanked them, returned to the table, after delicious dinner we cleaned everything from the table, extinguished the candle and went to bed. In my opinion, Christmas is the best family holiday. On Christmas my whole family gathers at home to spend these few days of winter together. All the magic of Christmas begins on the evening before the holiday.

From the early morning of January 6, our family is preparing for Christmas. My mother and father cook a holiday dinner, and my sister and I clean the house. In the evening, the whole family sits down at the table to taste delicious food and discuss different topics. It is time to fun, joy and happiness.

We usually spend the first day of Christmas with the whole family, but this year the parents were at work. So my sister and I listened to Christmas songs and carols, and watched some Christmas movies.

There is a tradition in our family that every second day of Christmas we go to the village to visit our grandparents with small gifts on this wonderful holiday. so this year we did it again.

It was a great start of the year. And we are already looking forward to the next Christmas)

For me, Christmas is а celebration, when I can spend time with my family. We usually gather and celebrate at my grandparents’ house. Our Christmas dinner normally has 12 dishes. The main dish on the table is 'kutia'. It's a type of kind of sweet porridge made of wheat. We spend this holiday at home baking cookies, making fudge, and preparing a big Christmas dinner. We love to see each other. My cousins and I spend the day playing games and singing Christmas carols. Christmas Eve is the most amazing holiday in my family because it’s filled with a lot of unique traditions. My grandma usually follows the rule which she has seen in her grand parent’s house that people can’t eat anything before the first star is in the sky. The rest of our family usually eats some lenten food. All women in our house always cook all day while all men feed domestic animals in the morning for all day, because when the first star is in the sky you can’t do any kind of work. After the table is set, we pray and taste Kutia (my mom always adds something new to the recipe while cooking). We have garlic on each edge of the table and ax under the table for the next year to be prosperous. My family follows the rule that no one can go to the barn because you can hear how animals are talking about Jesus and this speech is not for people. The seventh of January church group of our town goes from house to house and sings carols. This holiday season is my favorite one, because my family has a reunion with all the relatives either in our or their house.

I live in Ukraine. We celebrate our Christmas the 7th of January.

Before Christmas we decorate a Christmas tree and our yard.

The 6th of January i with my mum cook a holy supper. There should be 12 dishes at this dinner. The main dish is kutia.

The 7th of January we go to Church, and after that Christmas begins for me.

This holiday is a family day , so we always go to visit grandmothers.

We sing carols, for which carolers are given money or sweets .

I like a winter for this holidays , because they give wonderful emotions.

For me christmas is a wonderful evening with family and a fun day with friends. Before on Christmas eve, I helped my mother cook 12 dishes all day, and my father and brother sometimes helped. Our house was very nicely decorated. There was a Christmas tree and a small pine tree at home, as well as garlands everywhere. Everything in the yard was also decorated. I spent the evening with my family. When we sat down at the table, lit candles and turned off the lights. As soon as I woke up my friends started wishing me a Christmas. We also had breakfast with the whole family. Then I remembered my favorite carols and went to carol with friends. We were received very warmly and cheerfully. With the rest we had money, sweets and tangerines. Then we went downtown to the Christmas tree. There I met many of my familiar, with whom I shared my impressions. For every believing Christian it is a great holiday. And for me it's special. With the advent of Christmas, I have a holoday mood, because there is an unusual and charming atmosphere.
Every family celebrates Christmas in their own way.
I usually celebrate it with my family. Christmas begins on January 6th with Christmas Eve, when the first star appears in the sky, my whole family sits down at the table.
We have an ancient tradition of putting on the table a bowl, fork and spoon, it's appliances for family members who have already died, on this day
they seem to be able to eat with us.
Usually on Christmas Eve we prepare lenten dishes such as borsch with mushrooms and cabbage,grechanuku and kutia and others. Kutia is the most important Christmas dish.
Some people just buy it in the store, but in my family we have an ancient tradition to do it yorself of pounding it in a mortar.
Also for the New Year we decorate the house, put and decorate the Christmas tree in baubles and lights, we put a star on top of it. On the first day of Christmas, my family and I attend church.
When we return home, we meet children singing carols.
In general,for me this is a family holiday , because I can have fun with family, sing carols and just enjoy this charming atmosphere.

On the first day, on a Christmas Eve, we all get together and have a holly supper. It has its special atmosphere. Unfortunately, we don’t cook all 12 dishes, but we have no less delicious dishes. For example, very yummy kutia is in our family. It has to be with nuts and candied fruits. It is a little tradition, as say.

On the second day, we visit our relatives. It is usually grandparents or my aunt and uncle. They often give us a lot of presents or just sweets.

On the last day of Christmas we receive guests. It happens not often, but this year my mother’s friend visited us. Christmas was gorgeous this year.

Christmas is really important day for me. Firstly it’s a time which I spend with my family and I like it. Also this holiday has special atmosphere.

But all of them are lean. The most important dish is Kutia. We add honey, nuts, poppy and raisins there. Also we put garlic on the corners of the table.

I think it’s really cool holiday. Because everyone can be with close people. Also you can sing your favorite carol and relax.

Christmas in my life

Christmas holidays are a magical time for everyone. There are coziness and a festive atmosphere in every house. I like this time when the streets of the city are decorated and I can hear Christmas songs when I walk in the center.

My Christmas mood comes to me differently every year. St. Nicholas day has given it to me this year. I woke up with the song “Jingle Bell Rock” and it was awesome(because I wake up with the educator’s voices every morning in Lyceum). After lessons, I and my friend went to Lutsk for a walk. It was charming because everywhere were lights. Then we went to my home and started decorating the Christmas tree and all my home listening to Christmas music. At the end of the day, we lit a fireplace and watched the movie.

I helped my parents to sell the fireworks on holidays. On Christmas eve I was at home and celebrating with my parents. We have a tradition to go to grandparents on Christmas and I like that because it is one day of the year when all relatives are sitting at the same table.

Christmas is important for my family.Christmas is a particularly beautiful day with special magic.On Christmas Eve dad puts hay on the table and lights a candle , mom covers the tablecloth, prays and we sit down to dinner.The main dishes are kutia and borscht.Every year we cook twelve fasting meals. This is two of the few traditions of celebrating Christmas in our family.
I always spend the first day of Christmas with my family. We have fun together and play different games. In the evening we go to carol.
The next day we go to grandma, and in the evening we go to our friends.
On the third day of Christmas we cook many dishes and guests come to us.
Christmas is one of the most wonderful holidays for me. This day has a special magical atmosphere.

My family celebrates the magical holiday of Christmas every year. The tradition of gathering with the whole family at a large table has existed for as long as I can remember. Grandpa always sits in a place of honor and tells stories from his life. We know many of his stories by heart, but each time we listen carefully. He is pleased with our attention. An elegant Christmas tree flashes with colorful lights and smells of tangerines and roast duck. The whole day before the holiday is filled with bustle and expectation of a miracle. Christmas Eve is full of miracles for me.There is always something happening that you don't expect. Guests come who always have no time. Mom suddenly gets the most beautiful and delicious cake. Or I find under the pillow a piece of meat carefully hidden by the cat. By lunchtime, we will sit down at the table and begin the feast. The noisy company will laugh, sing songs until late at night. From year to year the scenario of the holiday is approximately the same. But no one in my family wants anything to change in this tradition. We all value the minutes spent together. And hearing the bell ringing of the festive service, the heart stops in anticipation of a miracle. After all, Christmas night is rich in magical moments. This is such a Christmas in my big and friendly family.

I love the period of holidays and Christmas preparation with all my heart. For me it’s always great spending of time, warm feelings and coziness. I associate Christmas with long celebration, decorating the house, my family and its magical spirit. This year it has snowed, what have made those days much more fantastic. I like our Ukrainian tradition of singing carols. I don’t sing, nevertheless I adore to listen to them, because these songs have special energy and sound, they carry our history and keep our national identity. Also it’s necessarily to mention about Ukrainian cuisine. Ukrainians cook only the most delicious food during Christmas holidays and have a tradition of cooking twelve lean dishes for Christmas Eve. We always have a lot of very tasty food and sweets, so it’s one more reason why I’m over the moon. In all sincerity I hope our generation will be able to save important ancient customs.
