The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a classic picture book that brings the reader through a caterpillars journey of eating a variety of foods before turning into a beautiful butterfly! This book was one of my favorites in school, especially since after reading it, my class got to keep caterpillars in our classroom and watch them turn into butterflies in real life! How cool is that?!

Five friends sit happily on a windowsill, waiting for something amazing to happen. The owl is waiting for the moon. The pig is waiting for the rain. The bear is waiting for the wind. The puppy is waiting for the snow. And the rabbit is just looking out the window because he likes to wait! What will happen? Will patience win in the end? Or someday will the friends stop waiting and do something unexpected?

The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who adored him completely. And then, one day, he was lost. . . . Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. Along the way, we are shown a miracle — that even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again.

Children will learn useful words giving parents, teachers, and caregivers many chances to open conversations about what’s going on in their child’s life.
