Circe represents lust and the anger of rejection in The Odyssey. Circe is alone on an island with her sister, Calypso, and is extremely deprived of attention. She attempts to seduce the men that come to the island out of desperation but seems to fail every time. Circe failed to seduce two gods, Glaucus and Odysseus. When she was turned down, she placed a curse on them, Glaucus was cursed with the legs of a dog and Odysseus' men turned into swine (pigs).

Circe is the daughter of the sun god Helios and Perseis, and was named a sorceress/witch. She uses herbs and potions in order to swine people into different monstrous creatures. Her home was called, "Aeaea", where she had tricked Odysseus' sailors to the dwelling area, and turned them into beasts. The god Hermes had forcefully ended her spell, where he helped Odysseus to free his sailors.
"Kirke's name is derived from the Greek verb kirkoô meaning "to secure with rings" or "hoop around"--a reference to the binding power of magic."

In the Odyssey, we are firstly introduced to Circe in her room, weaving. "Circe has magic powers, which she uses to turn some of Odysseus’s men into pigs. " Although Circe gets defeated by Hermes, she willingly invites Odysseus to her bed, later bathing him, and taking care of him. Circe lures and tricks Odysseus into staying there for her hospitality, and forgets of returning to Ithaca; till his men remind him of their quest. Wanting to leave her, she descends Odysseus to Tiresias, and tells him the danger's he would need to look out for.
