Harry Potter Cup Fall 2020

The Harry Potter Cup is a 3 month program to encourage reading among students. They nominate themselves for their favorite 'House' in the Harry Potter series and then for every page (or no. of words) they read they get points for themselves and their house. Along the way we have trivia competitions and finish with a closing ceremony where prizes are awarded for the winning house, and Head Boy and Head Girl for each house.

For my internship I completed several different projects at Haskett Branch Library (Anaheim). This included a display for the Summer Reading Program - Color Your World. I bundled books together at grade reading levels to encourage Summer Reading in their young patrons.

Take and Make Crafts at Haskett Branch Library

For my internship I completed several different projects at Haskett Branch Library (Anaheim). This included planning as 12 week Take and Make Crafts program for kids and teens. I purchased supplies within a budget and supervised teen volunteers to help put the packs together. It was highly successful and we gave out over 624 kits. These included Pipe Cleaner Pencil Puppets, Paper Clip Pom Pom Bookmarks, Bookworm Pencil Holders, Dreamcatchers and Ant Puppets, Baseball Hand, Color Your Favorite Baseball Player and Paper Icicles.

Volunteering with Non-Profit Access Books

Access Books provides quality books to public school and community libraries where the majority of students live at or below the poverty line. I volunteer with them adding shelf labels, barcodes and stickers to new books and helping with shelf reading and integrating the new books onto the shelves.

Cataloging at CSUF Pollak Library

At the Pollak Library I was part of several specialist cataloging projects including the American Trade Bindings - a collection of over 5000 books published in the USA between the late 1800's and early 1900's; integrating the collection of the Chicanx Resource Center into the Main Library; books for a satellite library in the Male Success Initiative program; adding new books to the Science Fiction collections.

Gisler Library Assistant Program

Students from grades 3 - 5 are invited to come and help in the Library once per week for 10 minutes. They do shelf cleaning, book cleaning, shelf organizing (putting series in order etc) and help make displays.

Student Success Cards

In March of 2026 I worked with the Children's Librarian at Fountain Valley Library to ensure every student had the opportunity to sign up for a Student Success Card (a CA State Library initiative) through the school. We distributed an information flyer and form to every student to take home and we had 30 students return the forms. In April, the library cards were distributed to those students at school.

OCPL (Fountain Valley) Summer Reading Program

I worked with the Children's Librarian at Fountain Valley Library to ensure every child at Gisler Elementary School received a copy of the Summer Reading Program flyer and reading log.

I invited the Children's Librarian from Fountain Valley Library to attend our Back to School Night in September 2025. They had forms to sign up students for a library card on the spot. That evening they had 60 new sign ups! (That's me in the green and white spotted dress on the right)

Students love Valentine's Day - at Gisler Elementary School they have Kindness Week leading up to Valentine's Day. A display of all the Valentines Day and Kindness themed books.

2nd Grade Book Share Program

2nd Grade students were invited to read their favorite book aloud during Library time instead of the LMT - and sit in the reading chair! They needed to be up to date on their schoolwork, have show 'Greater Gator' behavior. I took photos of each student and created a certificate for them to keep as a reminder of their experience.

One School One Book

Each March for Read Across America, Gisler Elementary students participate in a One School One Book program where they all read the same book at home as a family. For 2025 and 2026 I created a chapter activity where students could cut out a picture relevant to each chapter and paste it on when they had read the chapter. It was distributed to all students as part of their One School One Read packet.

I created a small display at the Gisler School library after weeding the Fiction section. The display showed titles that hadn't been checked out for more than 5 years. Luckily, several titles did get saved!
