In his relationship with von Braun, Sonny is striving to one day work alongside him. This pushes him to pursue a career in rocket construction. On the other hand, Sonny’s relationship with Jake focuses on the emotional side of his aspirations in Sonny admiring Jake’s ability to be socially confident. Von Braun has a lifetime influence on Sonny’s life and career. Whereas, Jake influences Sonny’s social life.

Also, Homer and Elise have a poor relationship where Homer doesn’t give Elise the attention she wants, and Elise is constantly rude to Homer about working in the mine. So, relationships are supposed to be very beneficial, but in October Sky they are quite the opposite.

It ended up with the group spending many days digging up the scraps of an old pipe line. Although they had fun and were able to bond over the experience and journey also making some money for their rocket endeavors, they grew tired, were stuck in rain, ran low on food, and worst of all Sonny ended up cutting his wrist. There were tons of positives and negatives to this trip. In the end they were able to come back with bonding experiences but left really worn out and overall in debt.
