About nearly 700 buildings were destroyed with a total loss of 20 million dollars in the flour riots of 1837 in New York. The rioters destroyed 500 barrels of flour and 1000 bushels of wheat. People couldn't afford the flour. The significance is that the owners with the flour didn't allow the mass buy or they didn't pay the workers enough.
