  • -Gupta kings were pro-caste system, they thought it kept empire stable
  • -Gupta reigned strong until late 400s
  • -Huns invaded India, by middle of 500s, Gupta rule ended
  • -India divided into small kingdoms again

    -Askoa tried to improve the lives of other people

    -After ruling for a couple years Asoka converted to Buddism.
    -Asoka built roads through the empire
    -He also encouraged the spread of Buddhism
    -He sent missionaries to lands all over Asia
    -Asoka died in 233 BC 
    -After he died the empire began to fall apart soon afterwards. 
    -In 184 BC the last mauryan king was killed by one of his own generals 
    -India divided into smaller states once again

    -Gupta rulers were Hindu, so Hinduism became India's major religion.
    -Although they were Hindu, they also supported Buddhism and Jainism's beliefs.

    -Farmers paid heavy tax in return for the army's protection.
    -Candragupta Maurya became a Jainist monk in 301 BC but had to give up his throne.
    -His son had taken over the throne and continued to expand the empire.
