In your groups, write a practice paragraph about how exposition is used in Stranger than Fiction. Remember to:
- describe the convention - provide evidence from the film - make clear links between the exposition and the overall narrative. Use the aspects of exposition your group discussed to help you make these links.

In the of the film Stranger than Fiction (directed by Marc Forster) a narrative convention used is exposition. The exposition of a film is used to provide information to the audience about characters, setting and the beginning of the story line. One way we are introduced to the film is through the setting of Harold's apartment. We can see that Harold's apartment provides information about his character. This is shown in the film through the dull colours and the minimalistic furnishings. This mimics Harold's bland personality. It shows that he has little to no expressionism, which further reflects upon his social life. The narration "Harold lived a life of solitude." also backed up his mundane life.

The narrative convention in stranger than fiction was the exposition. An important part of the exposition is the narration. The narration helps us understand the precision and organisation that is involved in Harold's every day set routine. It also lets us know that Harold Crick is a character within the story within the film. It also gives the audience a two sided way of thinking it could either be Harold's or Karen's story.

In the film Stranger Than Fiction, a narrative convention used is exposition. The exposition is a very important part of the development of Harold Crick's character. This is shown through narration and onscreen graphics. Through these, we understand that Harold is a very boring person. An example of his plain personality is when he counts his brush strokes. The narrator states "Harold would brush each of his 32 teeth 76 times. 38 times back and forth. 38 times up and down."

In the film Stranger Than Fiction directed by Marc Forster an important narrative convention is exposition. One important part of the exposition is Setting. This aspect of the film was shown through the setting of the character Harold Crick's apartment. It is used to show Harold's personality, because the apartment was boring/bland as was Harold. It was also very empty to show that Harold didn't have many people in his life to make it happy or eventful. These things were shown by the use of colour, the arrangement of furniture and amount of personal belongings visible. evidence of this is when the narrator says "beyond that Harold lived a life of solitude. he would walk home alone. he would eat alone. and at precisely 11.13 every night Harold will go to bed alone."

One aspect we see in the exposition is the character's actions through Harold Crick. His actions are explained through the narration of Karen Eiffel. For example, Karen tells the audience that he is very routine based, and we see this when he he "brushes each of his 32 teeth 76 times."
