I actually enjoyed reading the book. It was a bit tedious at beginning of the book, but gradually got more interesting. Sometimes, I feel like I agree with what the government did in Among the Hidden, because we can't utterly expend the resources of our planet. The more people there are, the less food to be distributed to them. My question is what is the point of someone being born if they die of malnourishment. But still, I feel like curtailing people's rights is not the right way to go. So basically, ATH really got me thinking about the population problem, and all in all, it was a good book.

Something that I disliked from the book is how they discriminated between the genders and how the Father stated that Men get married so the Women can do the work and cook food for their husbands. I did like the idea of making a story around the idea of shadow, illegal third children. I liked the progression of the book as it smoothly went from one event down to a smalelr event and kept going like a rollercoaster. The one thing that I liked the most was that Jen was willing to stick up for her kind, which are the third children(WHICH SHOULDN"T BE SHADOW CHILDREN) THe most disliked part was how the story ended, I felt a bit bittersweet on how Luke left his biological family but has also kind of done the right thing for all third children, but the story jsut ended so suddenly, and it jsut doesn't seem like a proper ending to a story.

I liked how they progressed the plot with Luke and Jen, how they began to grow their friendship. They also touched on over-population problem which is a big problem that needs to get fixed. It really showed the possibilities of what over-population can do. Also in my group we discussed how Jen died which was terrible. It was kind of sad because she was just gone. It felt like there was no real importance.

I had mixed feelings about ATH. On one hand, I loved the entire idea of making "third children" illegal. The totalitarian government also made things super interesting. I did not like the gender discrimination in the book, though, but the author must have had the intention of portraying the time period through the gender roles. I also did not like how the book was pretty short. More details would have made it better.

What I did not like about Among the Hidden is that when the author revealed that Jen died, it was too predictable. If a reader take the scene when Jen said that they could only hope that the rally works and the scene where Jen said that hope is useless and that action is the only thing that counts and puts them together, they could realize even before the author revealed Jen's death that Jen was going to die, making way for a predictable ending to a character. I think that this book should be taught in middle school because it is a great introductory dystopian novel. It doesn't dive into concepts as dark as The Hunger Games, but it has a problem, setting, and plot that introduces teenagers to these novels in a great way. It also introduces the problem of overpopulation, which is an ongoing problem in the world. It gets them thinking about ways they could solve it without converting to what they did in the novel, showing how this is also a good book to get them thinking and to get them on their toes.

I liked the book because the characters were very interesting. I liked how the author revolved the story around the idea of equality and hope. The book was very thrilling and emotional. But what I disliked was the beginning of the book where things were so slow and boring. It didn't feel right to start the book off like that however the later suspenseful scenes made up for that. What I think was to far off was the fact that Jen didn't retreat. That was just amusing. Since no one didn't show up she could have quit but no she had to go and face the huge wrath with only 40 people. Those are my thoughts on the book.

The book was really good and it showed how two people with totally opposite personalities end up being friends. Luke is scared, mannered and doesn't have an attitude. While Jen is brave, not mannered, sarcastic and has an attitude. As the story goes on it gets really interesting but then I got sad when Jen died. I got emotional so I slightly sobbed. Then after a while I thought about it and I don't believe Jen is dead. The rally happened but there was never news about it and if Jen's dad was there he would have helped her since he apparently "loved her". He might have gave her a fake ID and sent her to a different country. So, in my opinion I think Jen is alive and they might make a second book with Jen alive or as a ghost...
