Bad weather forced the battle to be delayed. Battle took place on the the Coast of France on the Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword Beaches where there was less fortified beaches. The coastline gave thee battle a line of war between the two countries. Planes and Ships played a part making it the biggest land-sea-air operation by the army. Sea Born soldiers everywhere.

D-Day for the invasion of Normandy in France by the Allies was originally set for 5 June 1944, but bad weather and heavy seas caused Gen. Dwight D Eisenhower to delay until 6 June and that date has been popularly referred to ever since by the short title "D-Day”. More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in Continental Europe. The cost in lives on D-Day was high. More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed more than 100,000 Soldiers to begin the slow, hard trudge across Europe, to defeat Adolf Hitler’s crack troops. D-Day was the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany.

Secret plan that was set up. The Allies set up a huge phantom army with its own headquarters and equipment. They knew that the Germans could be read their messages, so they made the enemy army believe that the US had plans to attack the french port of calais which 150 miles away where the channel is narrowest. The leader of the germans, Hitler, order his generals to keep a large army to watch over the Calais. With Hitler ordering his troops to guard Calias the US invaded Omaha beach by entering through the sea sailing ships and jumping out of planes, parachuting on to the beach during the night.
