According to the book Cambodia it states " "pol pot planned to turn Cambodia into a completely self-sufficient agricultural nation" This shows why it happened because pol pot wanted a self-sufficient agricultural nation so he made people do all this work in the heat and cold and stuff which made them die.

According to the website stories of Cambodia it informs us "Civil war had existed in Cambodia since 1970. Between 1970 and 1973, during the Vietnam War, the United States bombed much of the countryside of Cambodia and manipulated Cambodian politics to support the rise of pro-West Lon Nol as the leader of Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge used the United States’ actions to recruit followers and as an excuse for the brutal policies they exercised when in power. " This also shows that this genocide happened because of the war that was going on during this time called Vietnam War. In the quote it says that they use United States actions as a excuse to do brutal things to the people of Cambodia.

According to Britannica it believes "From 1975 to 1979, the Khmer Rouge governed the country with a ruthless and bloody hand. Nearly two million Cambodians were killed during the four-year experiment in peasant communism. Many died from starvation and disease during the Khmer Rouge government’s attempt to collectivize agricultural production." this shows that the Khmer Rouge just wanted to have a collective agricultural production.

According to CNN it claims "The scars of the Khmer Rouge are very deep and physical and present in modern Cambodia," This shows that the genocide has really affected the people of Cambodia because in my quote it states that there scars were very deep and present in modern Cambodia. Which shows that the genocide really affected them in many different ways.

As stated in the stories of Cambodia it insists "In the 20 years since the Khmer Rouge genocide, Cambodians have struggled to put their once prosperous and peaceful kingdom back together again. Historians, too, have struggled with the equally difficult task of understanding how Cambodian society managed to turn on itself and implode with such disastrous consequences." People of cambodia and many other people round the world have struggled to get over the fact that so many people past away from this tragic event.

As stated in the stories of Cambodia it recognized "From April 17, 1975 to January, 1979, the Khmer Rouge government of Cambodia committed one of the most egregious slaughters of humanity in modern history. Through a systematic campaign of murder, starvation and neglect, this enigmatic communist regime managed to kill as many as two million fellow Cambodians - nearly two out of every seven people in a country no larger than the state of Missouri." this proves people of Cambodia were scared from this many deaths in Cambodia and how they were done.
