My closest peers Aden and Nadia are my personal reptile pundits, and recently we have together been becoming excited about and interested in nature again. When I was younger I thought I was fairly knowledgable about most things regarding nature and was more than willing to learn more about how I could relate to the natural world. Having been an avid enjoyer of animal planet and other similar programs on T.V. I developed a passion for better appreciating nature. Later on in life it would turn out I could continue this ideal into college and even share it with my closest friends.

Aden and Nadia each on their own have, for many years, kept fish, lizards, and dogs as pets. I knew for many years that Aden would bread his many different fish and lizards and sometimes even sell them. However, only within the last two months have I learned that Nadia also houses parthenogenetic mourning geckos and a variety of isopods. After learning this new information I became more interested in other animals and how we are all similar and different. Now I have my own fish, snails, and crabs and I get to see the ways they are their unique animals separate from the other ones. It makes me consider people and how we are unique beings on the planet.

After being introduced to this class and the new information it has given me I slowly began sharing with my two friends some information I found most captivating. What intrigued them the most was by far Joan Roughgarden's Evolution's Rainbo but there were other media they enjoyed too: "The Male Clownfis: A Surprising Ability to Change Their Sex Into Female" by Hasan Jasim and "What does the science say about gender identity?" by Those Nerdy Girls. These three in particular drove many of our conversations as we would and inspired us to "hunt" for frogs. Of course we would not actually hunt the frogs. We would catch and release them.

We would be out hiking around for hours whenever we would go out. Our conversations would span random topics like our elementary school teachers, our least favorite types of music, and what it would be like to be 20 feet tall, but also more poignant subjects like gender, local politics, sexuality, and social sciences as well. Since we would be out looking for frogs, we would often try to relate the more touchy subject matter to frog society since it felt so far removed from ours. The experience allowed me personally to simplify the complexities and scariness we navigate daily.

I think that frogs are a great addition to Evolution's Rainbow. The diversity that they add to Earth is a charming display of what nature is capable of. They have funnily enough made me more nonpartisan and detached from politics. Frogs have made me a better humanitarian and drawn me closer to the people I care about. As I see it, there is a lot to learn from frogs.
